MARTHA STEWART: STOCK UP ON BUTTER IF YOU'LL BE BAKING

Heads up for the bakers here ............

In today's Martha Stewart dot com daily email, the lead story was:

Why You Might Want to Stock Up on Butter Before the Holidays.   There isn't enough milk to meet global demand.

The short version is that it looks like there will be a global shortage of milk ... meaning price increases in butter.

From the article:

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), butter prices have risen to $3 per pound, up 15 percent from last year due to fewer cows and less milk produced. "Tighter milk supplies and firm demand are expected to carry the higher price outlook into 2025," the USDA said.

I don't do a lot of baking, but wanted to give the bakers here a heads up if this is new information.

Yikes!    Not only "baking"....but think about how much you use for the turkey stuffing....

PS:   I forget about the turkey....and just eat the stuffing!    My absolute favorite "part" of the turkey....

Now the butter battle begins. Now there will be a shortage because everyone will be hoarding it.

Butter has been around $4 (minimum for store-brand) here in South Jersey for the last year or so. Name-brand butter costs more. I doubt there will be a true shortage, but you'll have to pay more to get it.

Cows don't like extreme heat, at all.  Hens aren't a fan either.

@catter70

There's already a shortage due to decrease in milk supply.

I pickup a couple boxes of KG Butter every time I go to the store. I have 30 sticks in the freezer. It's $4.27 for 2 sticks at Wal-Mart. I will buy more next week when I shop.

@Nightowlz

Thanks for reminding us that butter freezes very well.
