I'm trying to talk myself into buying a Vita Mix. I would like to make the green smoothies but with very little fruit due to their carbohydrate content. Are there any low-carb smoothie recipes? Oh, and I won't eat berries. Thank you.

Re: Low carb Vitamix recipes

Our American diet is not balanced at all, most of our choices are gear towards Sugar burners which is what creates all the havoc in the body.

Once upon a time we eat across the board if we were blessed to have access to the full spectrum of what the Lord provided for us from the fields of mother nature.

Now it is highly process instead of raised on a farm it is done like in a factory and our bodies are rebelling.

My self I am trying to do the Keto-diet which is low carb meaning are fat burners and this is a healthier way to go if you can fine those foods that are not tainted with GMO', highly process or raised in a factory setting "CAFO"

GMO's claim to feed a lot of people which is debatable, also expensive, poison the land, and the body in most cases does not recognized therefore many of our cells are depleted of vital nutrients.

You might fine some low carb smoothies by Geo Stella the Q does sell his books

The Complete Low-Carb Cookbook by George Stella - F11549

Another good book is Keto Adapted by Maria Emmerich what a wealth of knowledge.

Ouch! You don't like berries? Berries, as I'm sure you already know, are the go-to low carb fruit; however, you can use other low carb fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe, papaya and peach.

There's a good low carb smoothie article here: http://www.antioxidants-for-health-and-longevity.com/low-carb-smoothie-recipes.html

There are other low carb (not smoothie) Vitamix recipes here: http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/great-recipes.asp?food=low+carb+vitamix

Vitamix machines are known for their longevity, so I suggest that you choose one of the many models that include the variable speed control. Don't settle for a one speed or two speed machine.

I should have added I don't like any melons either. Yes, I am a very picky eater. I wonder what spinach would taste like in a chocolate protein drink? Thank you for the links I will check them out.

Well, even without melons, you still have papaya and peach. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Most likely, unless you use an awful lot of it, you won't even know you've put spinach in your chocolate protein drink. Spinach is one of the Five Magic Veggies.

Re: Low carb Vitamix recipes

Why is everyone so carb-phobic? Good lord...I'm sure some Paleo person will come out with a Steak Smoothie. SMH. Pears, cherries, apples, oranges, peaches, plums are all good in smoothies....but there's nothing wrong with a little banana. If you're that worried about the sugar, go for a walk. Exercise a little bit. Move.

Carbohydrates are good for us....our bodies need them....our brains function because of them. Everyone is getting "Foggy Brain" without carbohydrates & not thinking logically. Carbohydrates are not evil.

Some of us are diabetic. Carbs in the amount the average person consumes, even in "foods everyone knows are healthy" are NOT good for diabetics. Yes, diabetics eat/drink carbs, but most fruits have more carbs than are healthy for diabetics to consume daily. Fruit *juice*, i.e. a glass of juice, is very bad for diabetics.

Re: Low carb Vitamix recipes

Moonchilde thank you for your reply. I was trying to think of a nice way to say what you said. I do agree that many people jump on the latest fad diet or food without really knowing anything about it. Many people who eat gluten-free products have no idea what gluten is or where it's found. The same thing is true for carbohydrates. Many people think carbohydrates are only found in sugar. Knowing that I have a family history of diabetes I'm trying to do everything I can to not go down that road. I would love to have a smoothie with grapes and bananas and peaches but that would be a big fructose (sugar) overload for ME.

I am neither "carb-phobic" nor a "Paleo person," however, I am hypoglycemic. I have to be very careful with carbs, and I don't dare eat sugar. I do eat fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy.

You say, "there's nothing wrong with a little banana," and I'm sure that's probably true for you and perhaps most other people, but if I eat a completely ripe banana it will make me sick... I will break out in a sweat, grow weak, get the shakes, and become nauseated.

Please understand that not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to eat everything they might like to eat.

Re: Low carb Vitamix recipes

Save your money....don't buy the Vitamix. Use that $$ for organic vegetables in a "blended salad".

In a blender, use red peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, celery, carrots, red lettuce or spinach & any herbs. Of course, blended salads are not considered a meal substitute...they are too low in calories.

If fruits are forbidden, why bother trying to find a fruit for a smoothie? Your blended concoctions are vegetable/savory only. Better yet, just eat a salad. Problem solved & money saved.
