I still use my Keurig for frantic busy weekday mornings but I bought a Presto Percolater and I'm amazed at how great the coffee taste! I like really hot, strong, full-bodied coffee---and my new Percolater makes coffee perfectly! Who knew? (Well, I guess my grandmother knew--who used a Percolater!) it only cost $37 on Amazon to boot! Anybody else love percolators? (Also, it makes coffee really quickly....much quicker than I had imagined.)

Re: Love my new Percolater!!!

I could have written your post!  I bought the exact same Presto percolator three weeks ago and am loving it!  Love how hot and rich flavored  the coffee is.

Still use the Keurig for cups when in a rush but I can certainly taste the

difference.

Re: Love my new Percolater!!!

Welcome to the perculator club!    I've used this machine for decades - and love it.  Easy to clean which is the reason I've had no interest in the quick-cup one-cup machines.  I read on here - time to descale mine, how do I do it?    With a perculator you put your hand inside w/a brush, rinse and done.  And when you need extra counter space (Thanksgiving) just stuff the perculator any where - no water storage tank to consider.

Welcome!

I love percolated coffee.  I still have my older Faberware models & even use a Pyrex or Corningware stove-top percolator.  As for cleaning, I use Dip-It powder.  Just put the powder in the basket (check amount depending on the size), fill with water, plug it in & let her percolate.   Now you can enjoy delicious coffee!

Re: Love my new Percolater!!!

I wanted a percolator after having a stove top one in college.  I bought a porceline one from ebay, as I wanted a vintage one in working condition.  I use that still with my Keurig, and Areopress and french press brewers depending upon my mood for the coffee results.

I am wondering what ratio of scoops to water do you use or do you eye ball it?  I generally brew a half a pot with four scoops since my coffee cup is not a 6oz cup as coffee is typically served.  I do level scoops.  How about you?

As for brew time, I wait until the coffee I see in the percolator top is nice and dark as I like it.

Welcome to the Presto Percolator Club.  You chose the best one, IMO.  I've had mine for years.  If you end up with grounds in the bottom of your cup, you might consider the disc styled filters - put it in the basket before the grounds.

Re: Love my new Percolater!!!

You talked me into it!  I just went on to Amazon and ordered one.  I've been using the Mr. Coffee type of drip coffeemakers and there is always an issue:  the coffee isn't hot enough, the glass carafe chips or breaks, the water reservoir gets dirty/gunky and is hard to clean, so I've been replacing them every couple of years.

The Amazon reviews were pretty good, so I'm hoping I'll like it.  Thanks for the recommendation.

Thanks for mentioning using filters.  I was wondering about the coffee-grounds problem while everyone was praising their percolators.  I always remember the grounds in the bottom of my parents' percolator.  Didn't know  you could use filters in them.

Re: Love my new Percolater!!!

Yes, I use the same disc coffee filters (also bought from Amazon). I just eyeball the amount of coffee....I like it strong, so I'm sure I use more coffee than is necessary. You're right; it's super easy to clean. Glad to hear there are others out there who love percolaters! Cheers!
