Lock and Lock egg keeper mold

I have a L&L egg keeper that I really love, I can stack stuff on top of it and it has fallen on the floor twice with no egg breakage. That being said, there is an issue that I was wondering if anyone else has had. I have had all the eggs form mold on the shell surface twice now. I don't use that many eggs, so usually it is a couple weeks before I use them up. Kept in their carton, I have had eggs stay useable for over a month with no mold issues. Anyone else have this issue?? If so, any solutions?

I had the same problem until somebody on this forum told me to put a piece of paper toweling on top of the eggs. It works great--problem solved!!!

Yes, people have complained about this in the past, although I've never experienced it. You do have to keep condensation from forming inside, and Rarity had a great idea with the paper towel. If you are going to store the eggs for a long period of time, I'd check it weekly and put in a dry towel.

This is new to me. I have never heard of mold on eggs. I keep my eggs in an egg keeper but it is not Lock and Lock.

Re: Lock and Lock egg keeper mold

I am inclined to think that the eggs need to breathe a little, and I store mine in the tray made for eggs that came with the fridge. They are not covered, and I've never had any problem with mold or with eggs spoiling. I don't think I would want to keep them inside plastic on a full time basis.

I only store hard boiled eggs in the LnL container. Never had any mold.

Raw eggs stay in store egg tray.

I have this container and when I removed a couple of the eggs there was a little bit of black mold on the bottom--

Eggs need a little ""air"". I had 3 tiny holes drilled into the lid to provide that air that the eggs like. No more mold since.

I think drilling holes sounds great. I use paper towels and I pulled the gasket out. I don't stack them so I don't need to actually close the tabs.

Re: Lock and Lock egg keeper mold

If the container is "locked" down, the eggs can't breathe and condensation will form and mold can grow.
