I DVR Dr. Oz every day and watch the segments that interest me.  The other day he had a segment on Liquid Smoke.  Generally speaking, NJ is not known for its bbq, unlike other parts of the country, so I'm not too familiar with Liquid Smoke.  Does anyone use this?  What do you do with it?  Is more better or is it too much smoke flavor?

I have used it on occasion. More is definitely not better.  It just takes a small amount (like about a teaspoon) to give a nice smoke flavor.  I have used it when making a barbeque brisket or ribs.

I keep some in the cupboard and occasionally use a bit.  As soonersis said, it can easily be overdone.

I use it in my soups and chili. Gives a nice "round" smooth flavor.  I've also used it in baked beans. Always have a little jar on hand!

I use it in marinades, especially for jerky.   I keep some in a pressurised oil sprayer for a few things I cook on the grill.   A little goes a long way for sure.

I have been using it for years-hickory is what most grocers carry, but I found more flavors by Colgin on Amazon. The Apple is delicious...the other flavors I can't vouch for because my kids used them up before I could even try them-even when my daughter was an avowed vegan! She made an awesome mushroom burger with it.

Isn't that stuff supposed to kill you?  Here in Oklahoma we have lots of wonderful wood-smoked slow cooked bbq, so that's not a problem.  I've never used it but thought it was really supposed to be bad for you.

I've heard bbq is bad for you, but if that were the fact nobody in Oklahoma over the age of 45 would be alive.

As far as liquid smoke goes, it depends on what and where you are making.  My SIL used to put it on the ribs she did in the oven.  I've used it on my hotwings if I can't cook them on the grill.  If you don't overdo it, it adds a nice flavor.   The mister sprayer I use is wonderful to put a nice even mist on anything I want to use it with.
