Like a Canary in a Coal Mine

Eggs are sticking to one of my nonstick pans. Only eggs, but that's how it starts, isn't it?

Time to toss?

@PickyPicky3.  Sounds like the opening lines of a mystery thriller.

Re: Like a Canary in a Coal Mine

Eggs always stick to my non stick pans after about a week of use.

I just use a little oil spray or water and they don't stick.

You could always buy a new nonstick pan and use the old one to fry something else.p that won't stick.

If it's in good shape the coating isn't peeling, I wouldn't toss it.

Re: Like a Canary in a Coal Mine

I have a set of 3 Circulon non-stick frypans that are at least 10 years old now.  I use the largest one at least once or twice a week and always for frying breakfast.

They're still working perfectly.  Having said that, my DH was under strict orders to never touch them.  (I bought him his own set.)

I always handwash; never put them in the dishwasher.  It only takes a minute to wash them.

I've had other brands (Calphalon; Tefal) that didn't hold up as well as these.  If they decide to give out, I'll replace them with the same pans.

I also have a complete set of Circulon cookware.  Love this brand.

My All Clad started having eggs stick to it, other things as well.  I replaced it.  I hang onto the old one.  When in need of an extra pan, it comes in handy.  I usually use it just for browning ground beef.

I have found that if you wait until the egg is set good enough prior to flipping it doesn't stick like it does if you flip too soon. I bought the oxo pans QVC had at the holidays and am very happy with them.

I always have to fry eggs in quite a bit of oil, even in my nonstick pans.  I only fry one at a time and use a spoon to put a little hot oil on the top of the egg to help set it before flipping.

Re: Like a Canary in a Coal Mine

I should add, I've never used oil to fry eggs in my Circulon pans and they actually say not to use cooking spray (like PAM?), as it can affect the non-stick coating.  Also, I never cook on a high heat, only medium (again, in the instructions).

Just my experience, but I've never had eggs stick and I've cooked a lot of eggs over the past years!

Re: Like a Canary in a Coal Mine

I'm going to toss it. It doesn't matter if I use oil or butter or bacon or a bit of water. Always washed by hand. Never cook above medium heat. It's the pan -- not me.

What's left after cooking eggs looks like egg dandruff, uniformly distributed and solidly stuck on and needing soaking. I've never had a pan do this. It has to be the way the coating is breaking down.
