I've just caught Laura Calder's latest TV presentation. She's travelling all over France and reporting on delicious and unusual regional foods. The combination of Laura's style, absolutely gorgeous scenery and photography, as well as time in the kitchens with the cooks and chefs preparing wonderful food, nice background music, et al, this is in my opinion one of the most wonderful food/travel shows I've ever seen. Another great Canadian production!
The episode I saw today was in the Savoie area, the French alps, and the dishes included fresh caught fish, lots of herbs, cheese, and sausage, smoked meats, lamb, chocolates and bakery items. Most are not dishes I would ever prepare, but there are several ideas I could use. Have you ever heard of 'burned pasta'? That was one of the specialties. Laura said it was really more like 'toasted' pasta with a nutty flavor. There were herbs new to me, like Bear Garlic, hyssop, and other mountain grown goodies.
The show is just called "Laura Calder" and is found on The Cooking Channel. I did not find any reference to this new show on the cooking channel website.
Anyway, I just wanted to give a 'heads up' to any of her fans who may have missed that, or to others who might enjoy the French travel aspect of this.
