Do you have a theme for your kitchen, like roosters, fruit, chefs? or a color theme? Do you have several themes going on? I have a fruit theme...rugs and décor. Getting tired of it, and going to mix in something else. Don't know what though!

No disrespect to any Rooster Ladies here, lol, but this was the theme that came with my kitchen when I bought my home. (The previous owner was deceased and the home came furnished.) Well, the rooster theme kind of freaked me out because they were everywhere!

Literally, the first cosmetic upgrade I did to my home was removing the ridiculous amount of rooster knick-knacks, decorations, bins, jars, dish towels, stove covers, magnets, pictures, (you get the idea)! The wallpaper was even rooster themed!

A well-placed rooster here and there in the decor wouldn't have bothered me, but too much of anything is never a good thing, lol!

I have a lot of colors. I started with ceramic coasters and pulled the colors from there. Then I grouped the coasters and hung them on the wall. I have hand towels that look like this:

The coasters aren't available anymore, but you could do something similar with plates.

I bought a home with a kitchen that has gingham check wallpaper and a watermelon border - excellent workmanship, beautiful walls with muted color tones, old grey laminate counters, dark cabinets. My stove timer still goes BUZZZZZZ when it goes off. I love it. I have a small collection of shapely jugs/pitchers, and barnyard animals (no roosters!) that sit in the soffit over the cabinets. Intertwined is an Ansel Adams calendar (cuts the clutter), heirloom crewel pieces alongside things from Pier One on the wall. I tend to like things not new (I love my local consignment shop). The best part? The window overlooking the sink to a view of a native eastern woodland and all the wildlife it supports; beyond that, a horse pasture. No amount of interior decorating could replicate that.

My kitchen theme is country french... easy for us to live with. The woodwork throughout is painted a color I think of as "washed pine." The color can go either way... warm or cool. I do have a rooster or two... one is a Rooster lamp by VPH BBL I will try to do some pictures....

love your kitchen coasters/colors, lola!

It was tough to find a wallpaper I could live with... so ours is a subtle diagonal pattern in the same color as the painted wood.

An idea for coasters that I have done (and love) are the coasters (available from ETSY) that are actually photographs -- the tiles themselves are "aged." I might start there if I did a re-do... right now I'm happy with our very "eclectic" look. Sometimes I just get to the point where I sigh and say "I love our house." That's when all is good!

This is at Christmas, but it shows my general lack of theme!!! The Rooster shown off here is VB, of course! The older, more French patterns I use in decorating a lot!

This is Christmas, but you can see the colors I am using... the family portrait has been blacked out "to protect the faces of the innocent!" The BL topiary was enjoyable when we had it... I didn't have anywhere to store it so away it went! Nice though... my tendency to clutter is evident here....

Thanks for your replies, ladies. It's fun to see how others decorate. Colonel Meow, I am sad to say that at one time, years ago, my kitchen looked like your rooster kitchen, but was the geese instead. Remember when geese were popular in the kitchen? Most had a blue ribbon around their neck. Had those geese everywhere!!!! LOL!!

Since I live in a beach town in Fl. I have beach theme decor but just in touches , not overdone. You have to be careful - it does not take much to be too much IMO.

In our trailer in Pa , since we are way out in the country I have gone with a farm theme - also lightly done. Most of it from Cracker Barrel last year as they had that theme in their store last summer.
