I rec'd te Kitchen Aid 9 speed handmixer for x-mas.  I've only used it once for mashed potatoes but I love it.

I "inherited" my mom's Kitchen Aid handmixer that was all stainless steel and incredibly heavy.  It only had 3 speeds but this was the mixer my mom got when she got married and it still worked. But it only had the standard beaters and you couldn't add any others to it.  An of course it wasn't that powererful.

I replaced with a Sunbeam that had regular beaters, wisks and dough hooks.  That thing even on the lowest setting was too fast and flung stuff all over the kitchen.  The first time I used it was to do potatoes and they were everywhere.  LOL  But after only a few months the beater broke.

I then replaced it with a cheapy one from Aldi.  Whatever their brand is.  I hated that thing.

So, right now I am loving my KA but I don't do much with it.  I'm not a baker for the most part.  Most of what I will do with this is make my own whipped cream and mash potatoes.

@Meowingkitty, my Cuisinart beaters do the same thing! I thought it was just a weird quirk?...is yours a Cuisinart too, or are others like this too? Other than that, I love mine and have had it at least a decade...probably more....

Yes, each beater has a specific hole to fit in so make sure you check that.

I had a weird experience with mine.  I bought a KitchenAid 9 speed hand mixer a couple of years ago, from the Q.  I don't use it a lot, but find it easier to do mashed potatoes in the pan and some things in a mixing bowl rather than using the big stand mixer.  Anyway, it was either Thanksgiving or Christmas, I was mixing something (nothing real thick or stiff either) and one of the beaters literally broke apart in two at the spot where the beater part is welded to the stem.  I suppose if I knew someone with the right tools I could ask them to weld it back together for me, but I don't.  Fortunately, I found replacement beaters pretty inexpensively on Amazon, but still it's not something you expect to happen.

I HATE my KitchenAid hand mixer!! It just doesn't have any power! I got one thinking I'd replace my 38 year old harvest gold Sunbeam even though there was nothing wrong with it. It's so sluggish!! My Sunbeam has an extra high power setting that I use constantly that really gets the job done! I wish I had returned my KitchenAid!

I use my KA hand mixer more than I use my KA stand mixer.  I've had it about 4 years.  Before that I burned through a cheap hand mixer about once year or so.

I bought one of these about 10 years ago and use it all the time for mashed potatoes, and occasionally for other things. Mine works well, no problem.

As many stated I have a KA hand mixer (bought on impulse because my old one is many years old & gotta love Laura Weathers!) but I don't know why I still go to my white Hamilton Beach I think I bought at Kohls for $14!!!

Just used it today to make a cake and fudge buttercream icing!

I've only had the 9 speed hand mixer for a couple of weeks but I love it.  Like most people are saying, make sure the beaters are in the correct position.  My old hand mixer was more powerful but I am really enjoying the KA because when I am mixing flour or confectionary sugar, I don't have flour or sugar flying all over the place.  It made a big mess. So the 9 speed KA is just right.  With time, you'll probably get used to it like everything else. Hope this helps.
