Kitchen Aid Demonstration Made Me Sick Today

I don't know if any of you ladies noticed today when Laura Winters was demonstrating the Kitchen Aid Stand mixer and she was adding three eggs to the mixer bowl. I couldn't believe when I saw two large blood spots in two of the eggs. I can't believe QVC cooking staff would allow this or that she would even go ahead and add those eggs to the recipe. It really made me sick.

It made you sick? Really? Why? No one is going to actually eat any of what she mixes up there.

it's live tv.

You never had that happen in real life?

I think that is why so many cooking shows have the eggs in a dish and just pour them into the batter. Those demo products probably get tossed out.

That's the risk of cooking on live TV, unfortunately. You have no way of knowing whether an egg will be spotty until you crack it open and then it's too late.

If that makes you sick my guess is that you don't do a lot of cooking. When you cook you can't have a weak stomach.

I didn't see that. Can understand how she couldn't just stop and ask someone to bring out more eggs. I really enjoyed Laura's presentations that I watched -- learned a lot and I've been cooking for years. One of QVC's best vendors.

Re: Kitchen Aid Demonstration Made Me Sick Today

Eggs brought in a store are mass candled and very few slip through to consumers with blood spots. Eggs purchased directly from a farmer or from chickens raised at home can sometimes have blood spots more often as they may not be candled

Eggs with blood are not fertilized eggs. It is caused by the rupture of a blood vessel on the yolk surface during formation of the egg or by a similar accident in the wall of the oviduct.

The eggs are okay to eat, though I would remove the blood spot before I did.

I don't see how this would make you sick. It sometimes happens. It's not a big deal. Whatever Laura mixed probably got thrown out anyway.

So, color me ignorant, because I am very new to cooking from scratch of any kind, but what is the problem with blood spots in the eggs? Is this just an aesthetic thing for the TV screen, because I don't pick them out when I make scrambled eggs or anything.

I didn't notice the bloody eggs, but I did notice the band aid barely dangling from the tip of Laura's finger when she was trying to unjam the carrot from the food processor attachment. You gotta love live tv.
