Kicking Horse Coffee and Amazon

Don't know if anyone was familiar with this brand. I was told about it yesterday that one of their coffee blends has become a relative's new favorite coffee.

She found it on sale at a grocery store while traveling and was first caught by the name. She picked up the Smart A** blend which is a medium roast. It was 10oz for around $8. They also had a dark roast called Kick A** and a few others.

Always on a search for gifts I thought I'd surprise her with some as a birthday present. So I went to their website hoping to find a Black Friday deal. They are a Canadian company. The website had most 10oz bags of ground coffee at $19.99. Wow, but free shipping went you reach $75. Easy to do. They made it clear the reason for the price increase to US customers.

Before I purchased I looked around. Their site said they were available at some grocery stores, none of which were around me. Also Walmart and Target. So I checked there. Walmart in my area didn't carry it. Target did, but also not cheap so before buying I looked at Amazon.

Bingo!

Not only were the bags a Black Friday deal with blends running $8-$11, but they had an additional 25% off when buying more than five bags.

So I bought seven bags of coffee, mostly the Smart A** but also three other varieties.

It certainly pays to shop around.

How timely of a topic, @Etoile308.  Bones is my usual brand for my assortment of flavored coffees, but it's expensive.  I was just on Amazon setting up some new subscriptions. I saw the Kick Horse brand but never heard of it.  I checked and the brand is mold free so I'm off to shop.

Thanks for the recommendation! ☕️

@JeanLouiseFinch, oh I hope you like it. I like my coffee a lot stronger, bolder than what my relative drinks. If I still used ground coffee I would have gone with the dark roast.

I was tempted to try the K-cups in Kick A** but they weren't on much of a discount. (I have a rule to try and never pay more than 50 cents a K-cup.) I'll try to think of checking Keurig's site later.

I forgot to mention the coffee is Fairtrade, Kosher, and Certified Organic.

A guy in one of my book clubs figured out a while ago that is was less expensive to buy Canadian and have it shipped to you than to buy here.  Not sure what brand or if it is still true.

And I thought I was a thrifty coffee drinker 😂  Need to check in with him.

@Etoile308 @JeanLouiseFinch

I have bought Kicking Horse whole bean coffees direct and from Amazon, in Swiss Water Decaf and in several caffeinated varieties. Grizzly Claw is probably our favorite, followed by 454 Horsepower and Kick A$$.  We all have individual taste preferences, so what I like others may not, but adding my experience because I've always been pleased with their products.

I recently ordered from Amazon Cameron whole beans in 4-lb bags (Scandinavian Blend and French Roast Decaf--so far I've only tried the Scandinavian and it is good, but KH seems to taste a little better I think) as it was at that time a much better value, so I haven't taken advantage of KH Black Friday offers.

Unfortunately I'm going to pass.  I like actual flavored coffee, not just notes.
