Re: KITCHENAID JUST LAUNCHED ITS NEWEST APPLIANCE

We use our rice cooker often. I agree that washing the rice makes a much better outcome.

Re: KITCHENAID JUST LAUNCHED ITS NEWEST APPLIANCE

I have my own version of a rice cooker.  It's a medium-size Corningware casserole which I use to make rice in the microwave using the instructions on the back of the rice package.

I don't have space for every new machine sold and no interest in owning more space.

I guess I am in the minority here - I boil water in microwave and add my minute rice let sit until most water is evaporated, and it's done.

@debfau

Another minority here .... I buy the envelopes of cooked whole grain brown rice and heat in the microwave in 90 seconds.

Perfect whole grain rice every single time!

My mom buys those envelopes also to use, in fact we are having one with our pork chops tonight.

We have a $300 Zorishi rice cooker ( and their $400+ bread machine). These are quality machines and yes, we eat a lot of rice. Btw there is no comparison between instant rice and well cooked rice.

Sure!  This is the second recipe I've come across at AllRecipes that is easy, tastes very good and my family relly likes.  The other recipe is Best Jamvalaya recipe.  Both recipes feature a video with a woman, I think her name is Jaime.

Sauce:  1 1/2 cups water, 1/3 cup rice vinegar, 1/4 cup lemon juice,  2 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce (I used low sodium), 2 tablespoons orange juice, 1 cup packed brown sugar, 2 tablespoons chopped green onions, 1 tablespoon grate orange zest, 1/2 teaspoon minced fresh ginger root, 1/2 teaspoon minced garalic, 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes, 3 tablespoons cornstach, 2 tablespoons water

Chicken:  2 large skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cut into 1/2 inch cubes.  1 cup all purpose flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, 3 tablespoons olive oil.

Gather all ingredients.

Combine water, rice vinegar, lemon juice, soy sauce, and orange juice for sauce into saucepan over medium-high heat,  Stir in brown sugar, green onion, orange zest, ginger, garlic and pepper flakes; bring to boil.  Remove from heat, and cool for 10 to 15 minutes.

Place chicken in a resealable plastic bag.  Pour 1 cup of cooled sauce.  Seal the bag and refridgerate for at least 2 hours.  Reserve the remaining sauce.

Mix flour, salt, and pepper in another resealable plastic bag.

Remove chicken from the marinadeand place into the bag of seasoned flour.  Seal the bag and shake to coat.

Heat olive oil in a large skilletover medium heat,  Cook chicken in the hot skillet until browned on both sides.

Remove to a paper towel lined plate and cover with aluminum foil.  Wipe out skillet.

Pour reserved sauce into the skillet and bring to a boil over medium high heat.

Mix together cornstarch and water until completely smooth.  Stir into the boiling sauce.

Reduce heat to medium low, add the chicken and simmer, stirring occasionally, until cooked thru, about 5 minutes.

Serve over rice.

Note:  I top it off at the end with a little bit of diced green onion.  I also used fresh oranges and lemons.

@Tinkrbl44    I'd never pay $300 for a rice cooker either lol.  My minute rice cooks quickly and easily in my little pot.

@cheriere Funny how we all have our limits and nevers.  I'd never buy $300 worth of makeup, $300 handbag or shoes, camping equipment, life jackets, etc.

Way back when we both worked I paid close to $200 for our oldest one and it has been worth it.  So many nights we came home to warm perfectly done rice ready until we ate, house smelling so good.

It sure has earned it's keep for us!  And the cooking pot cleaned like a breeze--no sticky rice to deal with or pot to watch.
