My mom. dad and myself all love fruitcake (I much prefer the ones with fruit not the "mostly nut" ones).
One year the Washington Post newspaper published the White House recipe for Fruit Cake, my mother made those for severl years, they were so good; and yes she would soak with Brandy but there was also a few left without the Alcohol. My moms were made in a loaf pan.
This year I will probably buy one from the Holy Cross Abbey, they are located in Berryville, VA; these are made in a bundt pan and are 2.25 lbs each. I have purchased from here before and they are really good.
Now adays Mom sticks to just making the fruitcake cookies with cherries and dates and nuts; they are much easier.

@spumoni99 We get at least one of those every year (I have 2 stashed away and opened one yesterday!). We usually have it for breakfast with a boiled egg.
I do love a good fruitcake (husband-made one is THE best!), and like dried fruit as a snack too. I would far rather have fruitcake than fudge, divinity or something like that. Way too sweet and gooey for me!
Love pannetone but not the one with chocolate chips..
Have you made french toast with pannetone?..IMO..it's great.

I bought one from Sams club for the first time last year, I loved it but by the time I realized I loved it they were sold out for the season. I have bought two so far and I am on my second and eating it alone, I am kind of burnt out!
I can't imagine eating it with an egg but I am not really crazy about eggs. French toast sounds really good I may try that, that has eggs too so.....hmmmm.

Never liked friut cake until I tried Jamacian rum cake or as some call it Jamacian black cake. The fruits are sometimes soak in rum for 4-6 months.
Every year my friend from Fl sends two. It takes us another 6-8 months to eat it all. This cake just melts in your mouth.
Don't like the traditional fruit cake.

Yes, I love it and so does my husband. I never quite understood why it has such a bad reputation. A dense cake, lots of fruit and nuts, and sometimes flavored with a little booze - sometimes not. Absolutely yes! I have a friend who says she hates it, but has never, ever tried a piece. Go figure!

I love a good fruitcake. Not always easy to get one.
