Sorry, had to wait till I got home to post_ I use short salad macaroni or small elbows, but you can use shells or small ziti or any tube type pasta- Hope you like it!
2 tablespoons salt
1 pound macaroni
1/4 cup milk
1 medium red onion, finely diced
2 medium tomatoes, finely diced
2 small green peppers, finely diced
6 sweet gherkin pickles, finely diced
1 large shallot, finely diced
1/2 cup sour cream
1 1/2 cups mayonnaise
2 packages powdered beef bouillon (Bert always specified George Washington brand)
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon sweet pickle juice
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh dill
Salt and pepper to taste
Add salt to a large pot of rapidly boiling water, then cook macaroni until just tender. Drain, then pour into a large bowl.
Sprinkle macaroni with 1/4 cup milk to moisten. Stir well.
Add vegetables and toss.
In a separate bowl, mix sour cream, mayonnaise, bouillon, vinegar, pickle juice and dill.
Add dressing to macaroni and vegetables. Mix well. Add salt and pepper.

This sounds AH-MAZ-ING! (I'm a pasta salad freak.)
:::Thinking:::just add some diced ham in there and you'd have a meal.

You know, it sounds kind of weird, but it almost tastes like there IS meat in it!

Sounds good! I have a question…When you say ""2 packages powdered beef bouillon (Bert always specified George Washington brand)"" do you mean 2 packets/evenlopes or two whole packages (8 packets per box for a total of 16 packets)? Can you translate it to teaspoons or tablespoons for those of us who don’t need vegetarian and might just use Better Than Bouillon out of the jar?
Thanks!

Sorry, Havarti, just got home from work! Yes it is two packets, not two boxes- each packet is .13 oz and makes a 6 oz cup of broth so that would be your equivalent...

here is a slight variation on the original recipe WITHOUT using the beef bouillon.

FYI, the G Washington is NOT Beef and Chicken- they are "brown" and "golden" and both are vegetarian, for those who are concerned about that..they are simply flavoring agents, and really good ones...
