Re: JUNK - Kitchen Shears (Kuhn-Rikon) - Suggestions for New Ones

Can someone recommend a good pair of kitchen shears? Nothing super expensive just day to day kitchen usage.

I fell for the Kuhn-Rikon hype & sales pitch from Mark Charles -- well, they are about 9 months old after cutting all the "supposedly ok" things they are terrible.

Can't even cut a piece of paper let alone a tin can (not that I ever did that) !!

Many years ago I bought a pair from Pampered Chef - Self Sharpening when you put in case.  They have never dulled and still use them.

I'd like to find a pair that is a "workhorse" like these!  Thank you!

I have bought many of these and use them all the time. Don't understand what your implying. I have them all over the house, and have given to many people, and they love them.

I understand what you are saying, though I love the KR shears for their dependability and visibility throughout my home.  I find it useful to be able to grab a decent cutting tool when I need a bare necessity.

Precision?  No.

I have the OXO Good Grip kitchen shears.  I would buy them again.

[ Edited ]

I gave up on Kuhn Rikon too. The shears wouldn't even cut a bag of potting soil.

The company replaced one pair of my dull shears. They didn't stay sharp either.

Last month I bought a two pack of Sous Chef household shears from HSN.

They were $18. Reviews are great. I hope the stay sharp.

Since I do sewing/gardening more than cooking, I look at those tools first.

I have one of those cheap orange pairs, a much heavier, all metal pair for more force, and a pair of garden pruners for that impossible clear plastic.

Keep my fabric ones upstairs.

Dont go cheap, my have lasted for a long time.

I have a set of the original Rikon shears and they still work great.  Guess its a good thing I didn't order more for Xmas.

Re: JUNK - Kitchen Shears (Kuhn-Rikon) - Suggestions for New Ones

I have two different sets of Kuhn Rikon shears - one set of smaller, kitchen-size shears and another set of larger ones that I use for the garage and basement.

I've had them for years now and they're still perfect; no sharpening needed.  Same thing with a set of Kuhn Rikon kitchen knives I bought from QVC nearly 10 years ago - still perfect, even though we occasionally put them in the dishwasher (they don't recommend that).

Guess I've had better luck than some.
