Hallelujah!

Before original post, my searches did not come up with that article or even one similar to it, although the suggestion of the lead test kit did come up which I had planned to do before giving up my beloved crock pots.

Thank you!

The only products occasionally sold in the USA that might be suspect are ceramic pitchers from Mexico.  The danger is that people use them for citric juices which cause the lead in the glazes to leech into the liquid.  I believe these are destroyed when they're discovered.

If somebody wants a 100% guaranteed safe slow cooker they can get an Instant Pot with the slow cooker setting and a stainless steel liner.

@Kachina624

I think I want an Instant Pot but not sure about it.  I never used my pressure cooker and gave it away.  I rarely, if ever, use crock pot.  I wonder if I would use an Instant pot.  It seems like it would do the work of several things and I would not need so much.  I use my crock pot once or twice a year when I volunteer to do chili or camp stew for the abused women shelter.

@Nonametoday.  I've always used the old fashioned stovetop type of pressure cooker.  The new automatic electrics are wonderful.  Like anything else, you have to get in the habit of using them.  Food tastes so much better cooked by pressure and of course it's fast too.

@Kachina624   I guess I was too lazy to get started with the pressure cooker.  Yes, it was the newer one.  I would not use the old kind because I saw what happened my grandmother's blew up on her.  I think I will get me an Instant Pot (now that I am retired) and learn to use it.

@Nonametoday.  I used the stovetop.pressure cooker for close to 50 years and my mom used one for a lifetime.

Neither of us ever had a bit of trouble with one, although we always carefully followed the direction and kept the heat low.  It never occured to me to be afraid of it.

I sure hope they are safe. I'll be tossing my oldest one soon.

@Kachina624, my husband is the cook. He loves his stovetop PC, We have two, an 8 qt and a 5.3 qt "braiser."

They are both Kuhn Ricon -- made in Switzerland, 18/10 stainless sandwiched with aluminum, indestructible, and easy to use once you get the hang of it.

As for safety, "SAFE – The integrated locking system (prevents opening under pressure) and the four safety steam release systems make the DUROMATIC® an extremely safe pressure cooker."

He used the braiser last night to make an Indian recipe that we love.
