Me too - defrost everything before baking.  Cooks better through the (meat) item and browns on top.  I rarely follow manufacturer's instructions.

Trouble is, how would you know how long to cook it? Would you cook it half as long as directed if it's thawed?

When I was working, I would take my food out of the freezer at 6am &

throw it under my desk until noon...ie no refrigeration.

How long to cook?

2 minutes....always 2 minutes for everything.

Many things say “ defrost first or thaw first”.

Some frozen foods say " cook while frozen."  What if it gets put in the refrigerator and defrosts. Will I get sick if I eat it?

What does your package say?

@BeccaLou Amy's is a brand  of frozen meals.  If interested you can google and see the choices available as well as information about the brand.  Most grocery stores carry Amy's.  The Black Bean Tamale is our fav.

Re: Is it ok to eat a frozen dinner that has defrosted?

I quite often bring a frozen something to work for lunch.  I pack it in my insulated lunch bag with an ice pack.  By lunchtime it's about half defrosted, so I usually nuke it for half of the time listed on the box.  We only have one microwave at work and my co-workers appreciate me not having to tie it up for the full amount of time, especially when it's something like a frozen brick of lasagne.
