Poodlepet2....I miss McKenzie's too! Remember the Buttermilk Drops and the Blackout Cakes? I'm like you also. I don't really care for the filled King Cakes. I'd much rather have them plain. Gambino's is outstanding! But I think the best one I've ever had was from a little mom and pop bakery in Slidell. It tasted like a fluffy cinnamon roll. It had the traditional white icing but it wasn't topped with all the purple, green and gold sugar. It had tiny round sprinkles on top. It was so good. Unfortunately that bakery closed many years ago.
