Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I'm going to wash them in the dishwasher plus buy extra rings...

I got a second ring after 3 or so years

and have read that if you make desserts just to get 2 to keep the smells separate,  the silicone picks up onions and garlic

I bought rings in different colors so I'd know which one I use for deserts and which one I use for roasts etc.

I hand wash mine. If it picks up smells I lay it out in the sun(I live in the desert) or I put baking soda all over and let it sit for a couple hours. Works every time.

I washed both in the dishwasher. No problems. Waiting for a couple of new rings.

"Washing it all the time in a dishwasher with the high heat will, over time, make it weak and not fit correctly on the appliance. "

It MIGHT weaken it over time, but it's not likely. However if it weakens, new ones aren't all that expensive. Remember that these rings are not made of rubber, they're made of silicone - and thus are much likely to fair just fine in a dishwasher.
