Not something I've ever really given a second thought to... Frankly, given all that yum-yum-ing and happy dancing, I'm not sure how much of it actually goes to waste...

Seems like this question, although it's been answered a hundred times over, comes up every week here.

Most of the food is set up hours in advance. Even that which is set up right before the show would have to sit out for hours under hot studio lights before it could be given away The food is simply not safe to consume.

I totally agree. It would not be safe to send that food to an organization. There are also logistics issues when you area dealing with cooked food. A lot of groups aren't set up to properly store large amounts of cooked and/or refrigerated food. Since it has already sat out under hot studio lights, the time it would take to package, deliver, and serve it somewhere else would only add to the possibility that it wouldn't be safe to serve.

I can't help but think of the Seinfeld episode when Elaine donated the muffin bottoms to homeless people.

I bet a lot of the food goes right in the dumpster...
with all the starving people out there.
It's sad.
gosh!~ I sure hope not radimage! I have worked at bakeries in the past where we had lots and lots of bread products that were just fine but we could not sell... the shelters came by each night and boxed up all the day old( not really..) and took to all the shelter kitchens. No waste, a tax write off for the bakery and hungry people fed well.. I hope QVC sees this thread and does something good with all that wonderful food cooked each week on David's show.
Let's hope they have a deal with the local shelters there.

Yup! Must have been a slow Mother's Day. Maybe instead of watching and crabbing about all the wasted food on ITKWD-the OP should volunteer at a shelter???
