Am consider purchasing an immersion blender.  I am thinking it would come in handy, but not necessarily a daily use appliance for me.  I probably would use it when making gravy, soups, meringues, apple sauce.

Would appreciate suggestions/recommendations.  I would like a quality product that has sufficient power.  Thank you.

I have one and I never use it. In fact I never think to use it. I seem to use a blender or hand mixer instead. I think that's probably because of the cord, but I think a trade off of going cordless would mean less power.

One of the pluses is that they don't take up much space.

It's like my electric knife...don't use it often but when you need it...nothing else works!  Priceless!

I've had mine so long it is "yellow" from old age!

My friend was just telling me about her Ninja immersion blender. She also was recently looking for one and looked at several brands. She bought the Ninja b/c of the outstanding reviews she read on several sites. Best Buy has the best price.

I use my Braun Immersion blender mostly for soup, sauces, and gravy.  It has worked perfectly for more than 10 years.

I wish you lived near me....I would just give you mine. It's a Kitchenaid and has never been used. I purchased it a few years ago and never used it once.

I have had one for years and I use it far more than I ever thought I would. It is great for blending soups .It is so much easier to blend something in the pot rather than transferring it to a separate blender.

I do not have one. In fact rarely did I run across a recipe that I had to use one.

But I did make potato soup recently. It said to use an immersion blender. Since I didn't have one, I used my potato masher. It did an excellent job.

The recipe said to use the immersion blender on half of the soup. I only used the potato masher on half of the soup. So there were still small chunks of potato while there was smooth creamy soup too.

I use mine more than I thought I would to blend soups and sauces. Much less hassle than a full size blender you have to scrape and clean. Much less waste too because nothing is left on the sides.
