Re: Imagine you are at work and have to call a neighbor to turn off the oven..

I check and check again. I wouldn't have that problem, because I know it is off!!!!

First I wouldn't worry about the oven being on.

Second, no, not really in the kitchen. . . It get "put to bed" every night and wiped up, so it's ok, the entry hall might have a pair of shoes sitting there, but no underwear hanging from the lamps or anything like that. Yesterday's papers? OK by me.

The garage door I'd worry about. The oven? No.

If only you could imagine (reading comprehension, creativity) some lacking in either....

at my house lavender sachets everywhere, tied to things, hanging from things, sitting in bowls everywhere and on tables. (I have a thing about lavender sachets, buy them by the gross and rejuvenate them frequently with lavender oils, my indulgence as it serves more than one purpose and I am otherwise allergic to most fragrances and insecticides, etc).

I'm surprised by the responses in this thread. I can only assume that my OP was unclear. I expected that my forum friends would accept it as a hypothetical situation.

never mind - I didn't answer the question correctly.

Thankfully, my neighbors aren't picky white glovers, but if they were, I would think they'd be drawn in to our nice humble home that bears my stamp. We're not dead yet, so I guess the germs are good for us!

Either I totally misinterpreted this question or many of you did. I took it to be asking "If someone entered your home while you were gone, what condition would they find it in?"

My "neighbor" would most likely find a little dust (white gloves), but on the most part, it would be picked up. I hate clutter and I usually do a quick walk through before leaving the house.
