If it's not on the counter...I won't use it...

I always stored my Kitchen aid mixer, food processor. Vitamix, air fryer, crock pot and bread machine stored away in the bottom cabinets. Now with the arthritis in my knees, I find that I just don't want to bend down and get them anymore. I found that I just decide not to bother making recipes that use them.

I did leave my Kitchen aid mixer out just recently because I almost dropped it while strugging to pick it up. As much as I hate my counter looking cluttered, I may leave a few more small appliances out all the time...especially the heavy ones.

I have a toaster, coffee pot and countertop oven out already...

Anyone else find that if they leave small appliances stored away, that they don't use them?

Re: If it's not on the counter...I won't use it...

I hear you. And the newer "small" appliances are getting larger. For me that includes my Keurig K-cafe and Ninja Foodi, both of which live on the counter along with my KA stand mixer, which is too heavy to move around, and my KA food processor, which I use weekly.

I have a regular blender which is stored as it is used less frequently.

the Foodi is big, heavy and ugly and takes up a ton of real estate. but it serves my cooking functions. I might store it away during the warmer months if I use it less often. Right now it's used for pressure and slow cooking and air frying once or twice a week.

@Nataliesgramma

I have very limited counter space, so my KitchenAid mixer, crockpot, etc. stays in the pantry and I have to lug that beast into the kitchen to use it, or corral hubby to bring it in for me.

With diminishing grip, fingers and wrist strength, I also avoid needing to use it much these days.

Our microwave, toaster and coffee machine takes up all of the counter space that I'm willing to give up!

I like a clean counter top. I gave away all those stashed appliances.

I bought a cart for my Kitchenaid Mixer and its great.  I leave it out and store the bowls below along with the other attachments.  I gave up my coffee maker for my air fryer.  I hardly ever drink coffee at home and I use my air fryer about 4 times a week.  I also have an Electric griddle and a toaster that I leave out,  I am fortunate to have a ton of counter space and a big kichen but those are the only appliances I leave out.

I bought a Vitamix years ago, used it once, it will probably be in a yard sale here soon.  that for us was a total waste of money.

Re: If it's not on the counter...I won't use it...

My kitchen is quite large, but I hate the clutter of small appliances, so most of mine are in a cabinet.  I leave out my coffee maker, juicer, toaster and vitamix.  I just ordered a new juicer it's much more compact.  My kitchen aid is so heavy I make my teenage son take it out for me when I need it, but I rarely use it.  Years ago I had a kitchen that had a huge appliance 'garage'...I loved it, it contained several outlets and I kept all my small appliances in there.  I wish I had it in my current home.

Re: If it's not on the counter...I won't use it...

@Nataliesgramma I had to get creative with storage in my small apartment.  I bought an Origami shelf and put it on the wall between my kitchen and dining area, and a "ladder" type Origami shelving unit for a corner of the dining area.  That's where I keep my blender, toaster, crock pot, and Instant Pot, along with other items.  It's a lot easier to access things from those open shelves, rather then getting into lower cupboards.

I have little counter space...but my Kitchen Aid mixer is left on the counter.  It's too heavy for me to be lifting and moving it when I want to use it.

Maybe rethink keeping all of the small appliances.  Perhaps you don't really need all of them anymore.  But if you do, try to find spots to store them other than a cupboard.

@Nataliesgramma  I keep my kitchenaid on the counter by my flour and sugar storage jars, and use it quite often.

Re: If it's not on the counter...I won't use it...

While I like a clean looking counter,  I keep several items that I use often out...my toaster, toaster oven, coffee maker, vitamix & juicer.

However some I keep stored in the cabinet. I don't use my Instant pot a lot but it's not heavy so I put it away...it also takes up a lot of room.

Those items that I do keep out are on one side of my counter so I don't have appliances all over my counter tops.
