to use for dinner plates on our solid wood dining table?
Have been using on the table a placemat with a hot pad on top and then set the warm dinner plate (with food) on top of that.
It's not working. When I clear the table, underneath the placemat is still warm and sometimes sweating.
I don't want to ruin my table.
Any ideas would be very helpful. Thank you!

@Sunshine Kate To totally protect your table, a flannel-backed vinyl tablecloth could be used under a white tablecloth. The placemats could go on top of the white tablecloth, & the white (or whatever color) could really show off your placemats. Then, ceramic, metal, or silicone trivets could be used without causing damage to the table.

@Sunshine Kate. I have the solid walnut table my dad made many years ago. Mom had a special coated foam table pad that she used under a table cloth. She bought it somewhere and cut it to fit the table.
No problems with it ever.

@Sunshine Kate ..............Is your table protected by some type of polyurethane treatment? If not you might consider it. It would protect it from scratches, stains and liquid.
