@Allegheny wrote:I have a NuWave I purchased about 2 years ago. I truly don't know why I "had to have" it. I rarely use it as I have a 5 burner gas cooktop with variable BTUs. The NuWave does a nice job in keeping temperature when I am deep frying, and also brings water to a boil in a nano second compared to my gas cooktop and has a host of convenient features. Perhaps if my kitchen had more counter space I would use it more often.
The only thing I noticed is that it seems not to heat the pan evenly, (I use pans designed for induction). But perhaps the new and improved model has corrected that.
I will say, if I ever remodel my kitchen again I would install an induction cooktop. For one reason, the clean up is wonderful compared to what I have and I feel it is safer with the ability to use a timer.
I notice that too although to be honest it doesn't bother me much but I am hoping this newest version with the extra coil would alleviate this.
Maybe when they hit BB&B I'll take a look. With the 20% off, it would be a good deal.

gardenman, I just checked Amazon and they have a brand called DUXTOP that is their top seller. The reason why I went to check is because there was a poster here (Deadeyedaisy) who did a lot of cooking including I believe catering and I think this is the brand she used.
The price is awesome, way better than the NuWave and you can control the temperature in 1 minute increments and it is 1800w.

We'll be moving into our new condo on the 27th and had to replace all of the appliances. Since I was going to lose the ability to have a gas range, we looked long and hard at induction ranges with standard or convection ovens.
Frankly, the bottom line for me was that I was going to have to replace every single pot and pan I owned with the exception of 4 pieces, due to an abundance of cast aluminun pieces that I paid greatly for and love. Since we don't have bucks falling our of our pockets, believe me, this was a consideration. I might, however, consider purchasing one of those single units.

I'd been looking at the Duxtop units instead of the NuWave before today and just looked at the NuWave after everyone was raving about them here. The prices are pretty even these days as NuWave has a two for one offer on their website where you get two units and some pans (probably not great pans, but hey for free) for around $130 including S&H. I could keep one and pawn one off as a Christmas gift. I think the NuWave has better temperature control options (ten degree increments if I'm right) while the Duxtop only has certain preset temps, but they're pretty comparable otherwise. The question is do I go for two at $130 or one for $60? I'll probably end up going for Duxtop the one at $60.

I was watching some sort of cooking show a while back. They were talking to the cooking staff in one upscale kitchen. They said that their induction units wer cooking the food so fast that they wer having a hard time keeping oup with the speed of these units.
It sounded as though the induction units were making their way into top quality restaurants.

@gardenman wrote:It's interesting that everyone has the NuWave one. I think I'll probably grab one of them. I do a fair amount of frying and it gets tedious watching the deep fat thermometer all the time and constantly adjusting the heat. Something I could set and know it was keeping the right temp would be handy. I'll still test it the first few times to see how accurate it is, but if it works well it should be very helpful. Thanks for the replies.
Also, check out Amazon's price and review for the NuWave - along with the 4 highly-rated models by DUXTOP that includes Amazon's #1 best seller.
There's probably one that exactly matches your needs.

Try eBay. They have lots of NuWave Induction cookers listed. However, you need to look for the one with the latest technology, the 1800 watt cooker. They have a number of different watt cookers: 1300, 1500, and the 1800 watt cooker. I recently bought the 1800 watt, and it only cost me $120. However, there are 1800 watt cookers listed for cheaper, and when they are, grab them. They have different models, so be sure to look for the name of the model. The 1800 watt I purchased is called Platinum; All of the 1800 watt models are listed as Platinum, the 1500 watt has another name; and the cheaper one, the 1300 watt, is the basic model--this model is the original NuWave. Some of the original 1300 watt models have the carrying case with it. I have not seen any 1800 watt with the carrying case, but if you do, grab it. And make sure they are new. Some of them, regardless of the wattage, are used or sent back models. Either way, all of them will cost less than HSN's 1800 watt price. The reason for that is HSN's 1800 model comes with pans that are made specifically for induction surfaces and are listed as Mings. Glass, aluminum, or ceramic will not work UNLESS there is a stainless steel metal pad adhered to the bottom of the pan. Cast iron and stainless steel pots are the best pans for induction cooking surfaces. Good luck!!

gardenman, my apologies about the temperature increments on the Duxtop. It is the time that is controllable by 1 minute increments, not the temperature. Sincere apologies for that. You are correct. This unit sounds like the first one I bought that only had presets and I turned it in for my first NuWave rather quickly because of it.
The NuWave 1800w is a great little unit. Don't be surprised if you end up getting the buy one, get one that they both end up being yours . . . ![]()
