@PA Mom-mom  Why don't you try freezing your Crisco as another poster suggested?  Beats throwing it away.  I've heard lard makes mighty good pie crust but can't bring myself to buy it.

LOL we make a dessert at Christmas that everyone who has tasted raves about.  You should see the looks we get when they find out the crust is made with lard.

I used to use Crisco for high-heat frying.........but gave that up years ago.

Me too!   I can't even remember the last time I bought Crisco or any shortening.  Probably 20 years ago.

Re: I'm disgusted with Crisco

The store I shop at no longer carries the Butter flavor Crisco. Does anyone know if it has been discontinued? It might just be the store, it's a small, older one that has limited shelf space.

I bake a lot, I use butter, lard and crisco...if the recipe calls for one of the three products, I use it!

I have never had Crisco go bad, not even when I was gone for 6 months and left an open can.    My guess is that it got hot somewhere down the line.

Let's face it.  Baked goods are not healthy, so use what you wish, in my case butter.

Crisco is still around?  Last time I saw that product was when I was still a child.

I've noticed that crisco doesn't last as long before breaking down.  While I use butter for most cookies I bake (and I bake a lot), there are some cookie recipes that do not turn out well without crisco.  My raisen filled cookie recipe needs equal amounts of butter, margarine and crisco to roll out nicely and not spread out or be hard when baked.  No other raisen filled cookie recipe even compares.  I also make several others that need crisco to come out right.    @AnikaBrodie Thanks for the freezing tip.

@Pook  If you wouldn't mind, would you share your raisin filled cookie recipe?
