The lid is attached (can be snapped off for washing) and it comes with a little knife that lays in its own groove.  I needed a butter dish for larger sized butter sticks and this fit the bill. 

Plastic and you get two of them.

That's cute!   I use a L&L that I have in the right size for butter, but this is certainly more attractive.     (red, of course)

I had ordered these a few days ago. Stumbled upon them by accident as I was looking for alternatives to a pricey Fiesta scarlet covered butter dish. If anything happened to that Fiesta dish I would be so upset (we are hard on butter dishes)...

@Elom  Yes, there are pictures of it in white.  I'll bet you could find it somewhere else in white--maybe Amazon.
