You are almost duplicating my method but instead of 30 beans I used 3-5 / bottle but I also used Tahitian beans as well as Madagascar, Bourbon, and Mexican and my favorite for cream products is that from Mexico.
I wasn't sure how many to use. I saw so many recipes and figured the more the merrier.

I did try the Tahitian beans in the vanilla the last time I made it. I didn't care for the floral taste of the vanilla. My son in law likes to cook & he liked it.
As far as amounts of beans vs. alcohol base, recipes are all over the place, so I just kind of guessed & went with it.

There are a lot of cute bottles available & then people have made very cute stickers to put on the bottles. Mine of course, have hand written labels from the 6 year old. Maybe I should have him write it out & then copy it onto sticker paper to put on the bottles. That would be cute. "Fat Mama's Vanilla Extract" & then the date.![]()

By that I mean 30 beans in each 175 ml bottle of vodka, not each individual gift bottle.

Two nights ago I spilled half a bottle of vanilla extract but I'm way too lazy to make my own. Sounds good though.

I have 4 bottles right now that is homemade! Nothing to it the way I made it! I cut the vanilla bean in two and split them, put them in a bottle and added vodka. Took 5 minutes! First 2 bottles I went by what the directions said to do and the the last 2 I doubled the vanilla beans, I shook them about once a week for the first 2 months and now whenever I start to use a bottle I will shake it. I put them in a dark blue colored bottle as that was what was recommended (dark bottle) that I ordered off the internet. I also make my own hot pepper sauce and ordered shaker bottles for that. Great prices and good service!

I love vanilla, but have never made it. They all sound wonderful.

I've always wanted to try that.
I make vanilla sugar and it's wonderful.
