@Carmie, something seems wrong with a person who would buy a nice pair of pants and dispose of them after one wearing.  That's taking minimalism too far.  OCD comes to mind.

She disposes of a lot of things.  When she lived with me for about two years after she and my son came home from the service, she got rid of most of the things in my linen closet.

I have three and a half bathrooms and store my towels in the large bathroom closet across from the bedroom she and my son slept in. It was their bathroom while they lived here.

I was in the habit of just washing my towels and just putting them back up, so one day when I decided to change out the towels, I was surprised to see that that closet was almost empty.  She threw out large stock of towels!

I was really upset and wanted to confront her and tell her off.  But, I knew that she would not be living here much longer and it wasn't worth it to ruin a relationship over " things" so I bit my tongue.  She threw out a lot of my things and ruined things too. She carried all of my HS year books to the basement and threw them into a box and the pages got moldy and gross,  They were in pristine condition in my family room book shelf.

I could go on and on.  Things have no value to her and nothing is sentimental. It might have to do with her upbringing.  Everything material to her is disposable, everything!

My son met and married her while they were in the service, so I didn't know much about her, but she sure is different than me.

This story is unbelievable.  She threw away your possessions and rearranged your belongings and house?  Wow!  Honestly, I know I would not have been able to hold my tongue.  She's extremely fortunate that you continued to let her stay in your home.  What the heck is wrong with her - this sounds like some kind of mental illness.

[ Edited ]

We don’t have any baking soda in our house. I never use it.

I bought my first can of baking powder EVER about 6 months ago. Used one teaspoon for one recipe and there it sits, waiting for the expiration date to get here.

I don’t have confectioners sugar sugar or cornstarch. Just don’t use them. We don’t have milk or any pasta in the house.

I DO have a bottle of vanilla. Also bought for the same recipe and there it sits.

I’m not a big cook or baker, so I just don’t have these things. No brown sugar in our house either.

Our pantry is is fully stocked with the things we DO use.

Oh....and spices?  I think we have 6. That’s it.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

White vinegar; never without it.   Actually, there are many things I am just never without.   My goal is to stay out the grocery store as much as possible, so I buy multiples of everything.

        @RedTop,

            I was leafing through the topics, since I am not here every single day, more seen when checking on a poster that was ill or recovering.

 I wanted to say hello and ask about your tentative tkr.

 ```To chime in with pantry products, I caught myself thinking as you do: stocking up -only because I try to avoid the store visits whenever possible.
 I started to laugh while I was reading...I have 'NO' soda in my home, not even one for the refrigerator.
 Thinking, I (hahaaaa) feel so out of touch. BUT! I do absolutely no baking, thus my deletion of most ingredients ...ready to make a cake, cookies ..what have you.
     **I mentioned about a year ago my home is a sugar free environment.
Some actually had a jaw dropping episode(??)
  Take care and hope to read when you have the procedure    "if you have soda in your home, don't let me know- I am already the odd girl out"
   White vinegar? I have over 1 gallon. AND! My first aid cabinet is close to a hospital's central supply station; just never stopped having [all] necessaries around -comes from my medical days and ..still when called.
 Stopped cold when my husband had the stroke at an early age and needed me here- not some other place.He is doing great and back to what he loves, his business work. Woman Happy~
@Poodlepet2
I hzve seen freeze dried fruit like raspberries or pineapples at TJ. I have heard of powdered milk. Your other items, not so much. You are a living astronaut here on earth lol,
OT and kinda gross. I always have Imodium on hand. No need to go to the store during that time - Also a can of Coke (since I don't drink soda) for when I am vomiting. Small sips during the next 24 hrs should do the trick. I don't even drink wter. This isn't a little nausea I talking about.
Re: I can't imagine a pantry without...
Since my kids are grown and no longer live with us and my DH is on a gluten free diet there is no longer any reason for me to have baking supplies...I certainly don't need to eat all of those yummy but high carb items all by myself!
As for something like baking soda which has many good uses besides baking I keep some on hand.  However flour & sugar is something that I don't unless I plan on using it for a special occasion...it's now no longer an essential in my pantry.
My pantry has enough food in it that if there was an emergency, we could survive for months without adding a thing.  I have staples and multiples of them. It's only the two of us now.
When I go to my married son's house, their pantry is always empty, as is their refrigerator.  My DIL always asks me why we have so much food when we can just shop as it is needed.  Well, we have lived through a few emergencies and were not able to purchase food and water because it wasn't available.
If she needed baking soda to make a cake, she would buy it, then she would throw out the whole box minus the 1 teaspoon she needed the next day.  If she uses a half of an onion or pepper, she throws the rest away.  Her house is spotless and there is no clutter, because there is nothing in it that can't be used ASAP.
She wears medical scrubs to work, so she doesn't have a need for many items of clothing.  She will buy a pair of black pants to wear to a party, then donate them right away because she seldom wears them. The next time she needs black pants, she buys a new pair. nothing is stored in closets unless it is worn or used.  I think she only has one set of towels for each bathroom, she throws them out if she redecorates, even if they are like new.
i am sure she thinks I am a hoarder.
I would be a hoarder too then.  I always having baking supplies even though I don't bake as much as I did in earlier years.  Always have a back-up of mustard, vanilla, flour, many cans of tomatoes, tomato sauce, etc.  I never run to the store for one item that I need for a recipe.  I always save the rest of the onion, pepper, etc.  When my towels get old, I put them in the garage to use for the dog's bath, the car, etc.  I donate items, but seldom just toss stuff in the garbage.  Guess we are all different.
Re: I can't imagine a pantry without...
I keep the basics on hand because sometimes I want to bake, but I don't feel like running to the store.  I have a fairly good stocked freezer, too.  Just this week as I took inventory, the only thing I was low on was milk.  I can live a couple days without milk, so I'm enjoying staying at home this weekend, making a pot of chili.  I'm also thankful I don't have to dodge the Saturday shoppers.
@Lila4Now
We use soymilk in our cereal and coffee, so I only use milk when  recipe calls for it.  I buy the shelf-stable containers of it so I can keep them in the pantry. I'm sure it's not the healthiest thing, but it saves me from running to the store when I need it for cooking.
