@froggy the recipe on my bag of White Llly cornmeal does not list sugar, just cornmeal, oil, egg, and milk or buttermilk.

I'm from Arkansas and sugar goes in my cornbread even if I make it from scratch. I love the Jiffy mixes also.

@Icegoddess  There are other brands of cornmeal on the market - Albers, Aunt Jemima and Quaker to name a few - and the recipes on the back of all of those include sugar.

Feel free to make yours without sugar as others can continue to make authentic cornbread with sugar.

Yes, Jiffy mixes are the best. Made right here in Michigan Smiley Happy

I make the cornbread as a side ,  every time I make chili.

I add about 2 tablespoons or so of melted butter to the batter and

it comes out less crumbly,  you could add oil also.

The yellow cake mix is surprisingly delicous.

There are so many recipes that include a jiffy mix.

I'm in MI, too.

I love the brownie mix - makes a small size and I doctor it up with a little coffee, nuts and mini choc. chips.

The cornbread I have made with blueberries for muffins - very good.

Definitely check out their website for other ideas Smiley Happy

I love cornmeal muffins--Jiffy and otherwise--and like them to be sweet.

But for cornbread?  No sugar there for me.  I think that is more of a northern thing or maybe either coast?  But I doubt it is really popular in the south/southwest where I live.

But peppers, cheese, whole kernal corn, yeah, I'll take that in cornbread.

My BF just started buying them. We just tried the honey cornbread. That is now our new fav! That's the only one I want now!

The Jiffy plant and headquarters is in my state. Used to visit there years ago and they'd give you tiny boxes of cake mix. I only shop within my state and local so Jiffy cake mix is the best choice to help the locals.

I like Jiffy cornbread mix.  I don't mind the sweet in it. BUT home made i put in just a bit.

ALSO

CHOWDERS should be made with MILK

HERMITS should NOT BE DROP COOKIES.

THAT'S my view and I'm stickin' to it.....Unless you have enough to share?  Smiley Happy
