I Have Given Up Making Carrot Cake!!

I had a recipe from the internet called Best Carrot Cake, by Southern Living.It sounded really good and had tons of good reviews. I made it and it was horrible not moist at all very doughy not at all like the picture.

So then I made a carrot cake by America's Test Kitchen and this wasn't that great either. Not moist at all very disappointed. I guess this is not the cake for me to make.

I did use apple sauce instead of the oil and am wondering if that was the problem but I read all the time that people use the apple sauce and never have a problem. Just had to vent. Thanks for reading
