@Sooner : Why do you get defensive on any post on this thread that doesn't support buying a rotisserie chicken? It's like you have to back up your choice (ex: cleaning raw chicken, disinfecting).

@Lucky Dog - I don't see anything particularly defensive in the posts from @Sooner; whenever I post a thread, I often reply to the majority of (if not all of) the comments that are posted as part of an ongoing conversation on the topic I started. And if there are differing opinions, there is no harm in sharing them in a civil way. I highly doubt that @Sooner is trying to tell people their thoughts about chicken are wrong and they must change their minds, especially after noting multiple times that she spent years without using rotisserie chicken at all. ![]()

@Lucky Dog In no way do I see offering explanations to other posts, explaining better why I do things as being defensive. It's an exchange of ideas and opinions. I don't think anyone is being defensive. It's a discussion.
Point and counterpoint. Yes but. . .

@loriqvc Thanks you for this reasonable and accurate post.

Me too - It's cheaper and so easy IMO.
As a matter of fact, I have one thawing out now - Will rub it down with lots of Italian Herb Seasoning and Olive Oil, and pop that baby in the oven in the morning, while getting ready for Church.
Will make Mashed Potatoes and Steamed Broccoli (to go with), when I get back home - VOILA - Sunday Dinner is done!
@LavernLuvsShoes the Sam's rotisserie chickens are only $4.98.

I am concerned with my health and trying to avoid processed foods to stay healthy.
I would rather cook my own foods and know what is in them. Just my choice.
The cost is not necessarily my priority.

@4kitties .. I wasn't responding to anything about processed food but rather about the cost. I don't think you can purchase a whole chicken at the grocery store for $4.98. Plus the cost of the seasonings, etc.

We each decided for ourselves and our particular situation what to be concerned about. I buy organic beef when possible, but aren't worried so much about chickens and their processing as I would beef. My choice, my background as a farm child.
I don't worry about GMO a lot because plants have been cross bread for centuries and in fact a big part of the world would starve to death without GMO crops because crops can be grown and shipped that otherwise would not be available.
I buy all produce organic or I don't buy 90 percent of it.
I do not ever buy fish raised and or processec in Asia.
We eat from a world market now. What you eat depends on choice--we all eat gread, good, bad and not so bad foods. It is a matter of what we decide to buy and eat, what we have access to, what we can afford, and what our personal thoughts and prejudices are about what we eat. Which comes from what we read and who we listen to.
It's simply a choice. Doesn't make us good or bad, healtheir or not, live longer or not.
In my world I know people who smoked and lived on processed sugar and lived to be over 100. Neighbor did everything "right" and dropped dead in the park jogging at 63. Whatever. We all just do the best we can I think.
Live the life you want to live, enjoy it, and be happy for other folks who are living along with you. It's all good, it's all an adventure.

Chicken is economical and a good source of protein. I bring home a Costco rotisserie chicken from time to time.
I'm another one who has never cooked a whole chicken, but I might try it. I wish my DH liked chicken! Now, if I could make chicken taste like beef, that would probably please DH.

I bought a 4 pound whole chicken at the grocery store today for $.99 a pound. Seasonings don't cost extra. I have plenty of seasonings,
