Re: I Don't Know if I will Ever Cook Another Chicken

[ Edited ]

This seems to be the Costco ingredients:

Costco's rotisserie chicken contains the following ingredients:

    • Chicken
    • Water
    • Salt
    • Sodium phosphates
    • Hydrolyzed casein
    • Modified corn starch
    • Sugar
    • Dextrose
    • Chicken broth
    • Isolated soy protein
    • Monoglycerides and diglycerides

Re: I Don't Know if I will Ever Cook Another Chicken

I do love the grocery store roasted chickens---but a whole one is alot for me and DD --I do strip the meat and then cook up the carcass--we just never seem to finish the whole thing. Can't store much in my tiny freezer either. Maybe a cornish hen is the answer!! I do cook up parts on my Ninja outdoor grill that are pretty tasty.

We don't eat the skin off of the rotisserie chickens, and peel off fat like in the thighs (we are more white meat people)  so most of the fat and salt aren't a problem for us.  And that way I don't have to deal with raw chicken.

Re: I Don't Know if I will Ever Cook Another Chicken

I like Costco rotisserie chickens (no Sam's nearby).  Haven't had one in a while, maybe I'll pick up one this coming week.

It's just myself now but I manage to use it up.  I put the bird in the oven for 15 minutes or so when I bring it home.  Skin and wings get crispy.  Yum!  I freeze the meat I don't finish by the second day.  If I am feeling industrious I will cook the carcass for broth.

I remembered I still have 1/2 a chicken breast leftover in the freezer. They are pretty big.  I make a white gravy, add the chopped chicken and serve it over rice, noodles, potatoes, whatever.

I don't know if that's the cause of your problem or not, but why don't you Google it and see.

@PinkyPetunia That sounds good!  We sometimes flatten the carcass and put it in a freezer bag until we get a couple of them then make broth--and we will throw in any leftover onion when we chop an onion, or the small ends of carrots, celery pieces etc.  So we just dump it all in water and boil away for broth.

@Sooner    Flattening the carass is a great idea!  I will do that in the future to save freezer space.  Thanks for the tip!

Sam's rotisserie chickens are so cheap, so good, so easy to use and then you make broth from the bones.  Why cook chicken?

I just can't find a reason now.  Maybe some breasts for chicken and rice, but really.  Why would I?  Are you cooking whole chickens now?  I am lazy.  I'll admit it.

@Sooner   I agree that the Sam's rotisserie chicken is good.   I buy one every Monday to mix with my dog's food.  🤣    One day I tasted it while breaking it apart and found that it was really good.  So now, I occasionally buy it for my DH and I.

Me too - It's cheaper and so easy IMO.

As a matter of fact, I have one thawing out now - Will rub it down with lots of Italian Herb Seasoning and Olive Oil, and pop that baby in the oven in the morning, while getting ready for Church.

Will make Mashed Potatoes and Steamed Broccoli (to go with), when I get back home - VOILA - Sunday Dinner is done! Smiley Wink

I also agree that Sam's chickens are SO good and can't beat the price! I wanted to try Ina Garten's recipe for "Perfect Roast Chicken" and it was absolutely delicious...probably the best I've ever had but did it ever mess up my oven big time!  I'll probably only make it when my oven is in need of a deep cleaning!!
