When we took car trips we stayed at Howard Johnson's and had dinner there too.  I don't remember the meals but we always had ice cream for dessert!

I don't remember any poached egg in a cup! I can't imagine most kids chosing that.

We used to go there for the ice-cream. They used to have these giant banana splits that we would all, yes, split. Good times! Thank you for posting the menu @Toots711 .

I don't think we had one near us, but I vaguely remember those long car trips going north to visit relatives. We could have stayed at a motel, but more often my dad drove through the night. I remember stopping at motels with woods around them - my parents must have liked those.

About an hour from us is one of those motels that is now a group of private homes. There are a number of small cabins and what was probably the office and a restaurant, all private homes now, and set in the middle of the woods. The people who live there take care of them because they always look nice.. I like to imagine what it must have been like all those years ago.

Anyway - I'm off track, as usual! LOL! The thing I remember about this restaurant was I hated Ho Jo Cola!
