Re: How often do you get a true craving for.....

When I worked there was a very small family owned store and everything they made was wonderful.  All kinds of salads - potato, macaroni, tuna, chicken,  mac and cheese, their soups were homemade.

Some days a co-worker and I would get a container of chicken salad and a box of Wheat Thins and that would be lunch.

At the holidays they would sell fresh seafood. DH always asked if X had their seafood stand up yet.

I drove right  by the store on the way home. Very convenient. Sadly, they closed a year before I retired.  It has been years and I still miss them.

I normally don't crave something until I hear somebody talk about a food item or I see/hear it mentioned on TV.  Funny you mention potato salad because that's the only exception as I crave it constantly but very rarely buy it (I can't make it).

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit, but Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.

Re: How often do you get a true craving for.....

I've made potato salad with as little as one large potato so I wouldn't have a lot of leftovers, and a small batch of mac salad with just 3/4 cup of dry macaroni! DH doesn't cook much anymore, but when he did, he cooked like his 3 boys were still living at home! A small amount of anything is just fine with me, and I make what I'm hungry for. Go for it @CrazyKittyLvr2!

I'm retired and rarely eat out.

After eating my cooking ad nauseum, I often crave really good, tangy BBQ

I had a doctor's appointment Monday, I treated myself to lunch at a local BBQ joint

I don't often have cravings, but when I do it is usually for sushi or a fried calzone from the pizzeria a few blocks away.

Try Trader Joe's.  I add regular yellow mustard to it and it is great.  It has some finely chopped onion in it which I don't like but it's so good that I can pretend the onion isn't there.

My problem is the sweet/salt cycle.  If I bing on one I crave the other....!

@froggy,

Trust me, I could’ve easily eaten that whole cake!  But since my last A1c was under 7, that cake was not safe in this house.

something?   For some reason I really, really want potato salad or macaroni salad.  I know you can eat whatever you want in any season you choose but I usually make those salads in the summer.

I didn't even make mac salad this year.  DD doesn't like it and with DH gone it seemed like a lot of work for a couple of servings for me to eat.  Store bought usually isn't that good. Same with potato salad. I tried some from Wegmans and didn't care for it.

I might have to break down and make some anyway.   I don't think DS is crazy about it either.

Costco has large containers of delicious potato salad - I had trouble stopping.

I get cravings for foods I haven't consumed for a while. I'll be fine going without chocolate until a craving hits me. Then I'm done for a while. Pizza. I can go a couple of months without pizza, then a craving for thin crust cheese or veggie cheese. I'll eat it a couple of times, then back on the shelf. Pimento Cheese. Mom and I shared an appreciation and no one else in the family would touch it. Lucky us.
