How many cake mixes to make a 18 x 13 x 1 inch pan (half sheet pan) ?

I want to use a Duncan Hines Butter Golden Cake mix.

I'm guess here, but I think 2 would be fine. 18x13 would be twice the length of 9 x 13

How many quarts is your pan? I've done 2 mixes in a 2.5 qt. round.

My first thought also was that two would be enough.

Yes but its half the height, so I would say one 1" is very thin, a 9 x 13 pan is 2" at least

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive what could go right.

I would use 2, and if it's too much, don't use all the batter.

Do you still have your box? Inside the box, there should be a pan to cups chart. Duncan Hines used to have this in all their boxes and on their website but I have also called the 800# on the box and they have a recording that lists all the cake pan sizes and how many cups per cake pan.

There are also special instructions when doubling cake mixes (less oil/butter, etc.).

Each box of mix used to make about 5 1/3 cups, it may be less now. If you go to the chart it tells you how many cups you will need for the pan size you are using.

For a 9x13 pan one box is good with a bit of space left at the top. I have a 18X13 pan that is one inch in height that I use for jelly rolls. I still just use one box of cake mix because of the height. I would be afraid that two boxes would overflow IMO. What are you trying to bake? Foe large crowds, I have stacked two 9x13 cakes on top of each other with icing in between and on the top and sides. But I baked two 9x13 cakes first and then layered. Good luck!

Yeah, that does make sense. When I really thought about a 1" high pan it made a big difference in terms of the comparison of how high a 9x13" pan is. With the 2" pan, if you're filling it up, you have 9" PLUS 9", which equals the 18" of the other pan. So, if filling it up the one mix would probably work. I'd probably use a smaller pan and make a deeper cake, but that's just me. Smiley Happy

I did call DH and was told to use 3 boxes for a 12 by 18 by 1. I thought this was too many cake mixes. ??
