How do you get rid of fruit flys???

Where do they come from? When do they go home??

Over the weekend I bought 3 bunches of overly ripe bananas. I love the discounted price and this ususally isn't a problem since my stepson usually eats 4 at a time. But no one ate many this time, so I made a banana cake this week. The bananas are gone at least 3, probably 4 days now, and I still have the fruit flys! They're such a bother.
