This made me smile. My dad loved them and so does my sweet "eat anything" hubby! DH loves buying those little cans, draining them a bit and then using a little seafood fork to eat the whole blasted thing from the can. Ugh. Sorry that I can't add anything about how they taste, but hubby says they're delicious. I don't buy it! LOL!

No, you don't eat the heads. When they are packed in the can, the heads are removed already.

Sardines with mustard sauce are very good placed on club crackers.I as tried anchovies and was surprised how good they are.

I pass them up on the grocery shelf and that's where they are going to stay.
There's a lot of other things that are just nutritional.
My dad and grandpa just loved them, opened the can, got a sleeve of crackers out and just sat there with a fork putting those little fishies on the crackers and eating them.

Yes. I prefer the sardines in the mustard.
I also eat pickled herring in sour cream and onions.
Both sardines and herring on dark bread or English muffins or sourdough bread, or cut up and tossed in a salad.

As a child, I liked them on saltines with a little mustard!

As someone earlier said, on a fresh salad, drained, with oil and vinegar dressing. Someone’s asked do you eat the heads? There aren’t any in canned tuna.
They are also great on Ritz crackers or a baguette.
