I've never eaten sardines, for what I assume would be an obvious reason......(the way they look).
Anyway, I was just reading about how nutritional they are, and how we should *all* be eating sardines!
Question: how do you eat them and is there any way to make them taste good?
I love fish and seafood but for some reason, I'm not looking forward to this experiment........

I don't care for fishy fish and wouldn't touch them with a 10ft pole. I remember my mother eating them but don't recall what she did with them. I think I tried not to look.

Sardines were big in our family, but I never liked them. My mom bought the sardines packed in a can with oil or mustard and oil and would make a sandwich or spread it on crackers. Sardines IMO and maybe because they were canned, smelled and taste quite strong, worse than canned tuna.

@YorkieonmyPillow Are you talking fresh or canned. I love fresh sardines just grilled - nice char on the skin, drizzle with little vinegar, olive oil and sat & pepper - serve with tomato salad, crispy bread - we ate these on the beach fresh grilled nearly every day in Spain.
Canned I always try to buy Spanish in olive oil - we eat them for lunch just mashed with condiments as above and put them on toast or baguette with salad. Great lunch!

I like them. Eat the canned ones on saltines.

I use to eat sardines in mustard at my aunt and uncle’s on the farm late 50’s, early 60’s. Loved them.
Won’t eat them now.

@YorkieonmyPillow You're welcome. When you open can, drain off most of oil but keep some to moisten, then condiments, drizzle vinegar or balsamic warm baguette - you can tell DH and I like our sardines!

Even though they are good for you I haven't eaten them for some time. But, when I do I like them packed in mustard sauce. I take out the backbone (even though you can eat it) put them on crackers and add a little slice of onion. They're quite good actually.
