How To Cook A Ham . . . 101

I am having a houseful of guests Christmas Day and we purchased a whole ham to serve to our meat-eating friends. My question is: Can I cook the ham in one of those tabletop roasters? Well, I know I can, but will it be as good as cooking in an oven the traditional way? If so, any suggestions? Whenever I have cooked a ham, I score it and add just a few cloves and then pour ginger ale over it (learned from my father-in-law).
