Re: How Small Can A Container Of Yogurt Go Before You Stop Buying It?

OP, ITA. I used to not buy any brands that were under 8 oz. Now, that's impossible. So, now I don't buy any brands that are under 6 oz. And the 6 oz. brands are getting harder to find! I keep forgetting to ask my WW leader about a 1 cup serving -- do these 6 oz. containers still equal a 1 cup serving???

The one thing I have completely crossed off my list is Hershey chocolate bars. How thin can they make them, well they can keep them. The only time I will buy is if my nephew comes over. He loves them. I am sure as I go along there will be a few more things. I am close to just making things from scratch too. At least then I will know somewhat what is going in my food. It's gotten crazy with all this modified stuff.

I make my own chocolate fudge with natural ingredients. Pudding also.

I can never finish a small container, so this move makes sense to me, if I'm on the run. Otherwise, I agree with just buying a larger container, and scooping out portions as you need.

I do that too, but one has to be very careful in scooping exactly the amount one is going to use, or it gets very watery when disturbed.

Re: How Small Can A Container Of Yogurt Go Before You Stop Buying It?

A couple years ago I did a research project on yogurt for my nursing school Nutrition class and it was a real eye opener. Ladies, get into the habit of reading those labels. Yogurt is one thing: Milk gone bad.

Just when I thought I was going to be forced to make my own I found a really good one and it's now my favorite.

Ingredients: Organic whole milk, organic nonfat milk powder, L. acidophilus LA-5®, S. thermophilus, L. bulgaricus, L. casei, L. rhamnosus, B. bifidum cultures.

Since I eat plain yogurt, I get the 32 oz, it lasts me several days, much less expensive! Its ridiculous how small the cartons are now!

to answer the question, nothing under 6 oz. I think that's too small. I liked the 8 oz size.

We have a store that sells their generic in house brand at 8 oz. Only a few flavors tho, but good enough for me.

I just was researching Chobani yesterday. It's not really Greek yogurt! It is "thickened" using a thickening gum to look like Greek, and they add high-fructose corn syrup. It is filtered/strained once (before they add that stuff), while real Greek yogurt is filtered/strained three times to remove excess sugars, liquid whey, etc. I will not be buying this again! Sticking with Fage from now on (you can find other reputable brands via Google).

I also notice how the size of the boxes for products stays the same but what's inside gets smaller. My frozen pizza boxes are the same size but the pizzas have gotten way smaller- almost individual size. It's ridiculous! Also my Viva paper towel rolls look half used when new and my husband and I cracked up at the small amount of toilet paper that was on the giant roll (or maybe the cardboard holder just looked enormous because of such a small amount of paper on it).

I feel sorry for larger families. We're a family of 4 but luckily I'm on a diet most of the time so we can still get by with one box or package- LOL And I stopped buying Viva and the rip off toilet paper (think it wa Angel Soft or something like that).

Still buying the individual yogurts just for my 11 year old autistic son. He has a small appetite but we'll have to switch to the economy size when his appetite increases.

I buy both the big and little containers of yogurt. My kids take the little ones to school. And I use the big to scoop out at home.
