@kittylooThat sounds delicious. I love green beans with sliced of fresh tomatoes.
.@ECBG@ @kittyloo I have had them cooked with diced tomatoes, cubes of beef, onion and a tiny hint of cuman, cinnamon and maybe some other spices and they are wonderful! They are served over rice. It is a Middle Eastern dish and I could eat tons of it. The beef is well cooked and tender, and beans are cooked through and all of that and the juice over rice and I'm in heaven!
i make this type of stew for basmati rice. tomatoes, tomato sauce, cubed beef, onions, green beans, garlic powder, lemon, saffron, turmeric, salt ,pepper. the beef becomes fall apart tender. a favorite of mine. must be cooked low and slow for at least two hours if not longer.

@peachesncream @ECBG Yes! Those Kentucky Wonder, Italian or flat beans! Around here they are often under the brand Allen, and you can't find them in some stores.
Those and the Le Sur are the only canned beans fit to eat. And they are both more expensive than those regular "squeaky" things! But worth it!

At least twice a month. They're a favorite around here and no one will settle for frozen.

We have them at least twice a week. We love them and growing up they were my mom's vegetable of choice. I've changed the way I cooked them over the years so they would be healthier. I usually shock them for about 3 minutes, then add them to a frying pan of evoo, garlic, diced red peppers seasoned salt & p and shallots. Add some LS chicken broth and steam them until tender but keeping their vibrant green color. My mom makes the, "cooked to death green beans", which really are my preferred way to eat them. She stems them with onion, a little garlic and LS chicken broth till limp and the color changes. Neither of us uses bacon grease on a regular basis any more but they are certainly delicious with it as well as a little sugar! We also like to use the Goya Ham flavor but have cut down on our use of salt so don't use it often anymore. I also like them cooked with potatoes right in the pot! Mom always makes and brings them for Thanksgiving and Christmas to go along with my collard greens and other vegetables.

We have so many varieties of green beans here.
Some you absolutely cannot eat raw. Too chewy and stringy.
But they are good when cooked.
So I cook those with lots of fresh ground black pepper and a little touch of vegetable shortening.
The tender ones you can eat raw sometimes get "pickled"
I pour over the Zesty Italian dressing, refrigerate. Serve.

Delighted someone else cannot stand that gross greenbean casserole! My MIL made it too often. It was her favorite dish for decades. SMH
@BirkiLady @ECBG My mother made that casserole when I was young and nobody liked it.
I love green beans! I love them cooked with water, with ham, or bacon, or with chicken broth! I like them cooked longer like we used to do in the old days. In a pinch, we like Allen's flat green beans in a can or Le Seur green bans.
We eat a lot of green beans!
@SoonerIf they're not fresh, I can only stand frozen French cut.
@my grnadmother and mother used to can beans that tasted like fresh beans. It took my grandmother a while to adjust to freezer beans. She loved the canned ones (and so did I).
I buy the brand Double Luck canned green beans.
I drain the water, add my own filtered water and gently simmer for maybe 20 minutes with fresh black pepper & about a half teaspoon vegetable shortening.
I was taught this by an "old" southern country cook.
Those beans taste like fresh. It's the only canned green beans I buy.

I cook green beans often, both fresh and frozen.
My current favorite is the huge bag of frozen organic green beans only available SOMETIMES at Costco.
I simmer them untl tender, toast some slivered almonds and toss them into the beans, with some butter and salt.
These are the best frozen green beans I've ever tried. Wish they were always available at Costco.

I love green beans but I normally eat a small salad with my evening meals. If I want a change, I'll buy frozen bags and make a pot of green beans and eat tthose instead. I love fresh but frozen is second best and MUCh easier. I cook mine with bacon and onions. I know most of you probably don't eat yours this way but I simmer them for hours until they are extremely tender.

I love fresh green beans and don't cook them enough. I don't like frozen or canned beans. I love to cook the beans until crisp tender. Then I take sliced (not slivered) almonds and saute them in butter until nut brown (not burned). Pour over green beans. Add a bit of sea salt. Delicious.
