I have a 13 cup Kitchen Aid with dicer acsessory. I use it just a few times a year ( i live alone) to make pue crusts for Tomato Pie or graham cracker crumbs for cheesecake. I ve only used the dicer acsessory twice. That did come in handy when i used for carrots, onions and celery for a friend's church to make Thanksgiving Dinner for 500 shut ins one year.
I regret it as it is bulky to store and i dont use it much.it cost too much for me to have it sitting there not using it.
If i had my druthers Id get that current Kitchen Aid 9 cup that has the discs storage on board and looks easier to use the right middle piece for what you need. Mine i never remeber how it goes, too many parts to assemble depending on if uding discs or not.

@LizzieInSRQ What you said is why my choice is the Cuisinart DLC series--at least the ones I have. Not too many parts, easy to use for slicing and grating, easy to throw in the dishwasher. Especially grating we love it--
Also, husband is a big pie baker and he always uses it for crusts.

Mine is a Cuisinart ca.1983. i think its a DLC-7 Pro. Made in Japan. It came with a cookbook with James Beard on the cover.
its very heavy. i replaced the motor in 1989 and actually drove the machine to Norwich CT when their HQ was located there. i believe it was under warranty then and/or there was a lifetime warranty on the motor.
The main chopping blade was recalled a number of years ago and replaced at no charge so that blade is new. the rest of the parts are original. The smoke-colored plastic beaker, lid and tube all original. these parts get stuck when trying to operate the machine so i use a bit of cooking oil which helps. mostly i wash by hand now but the parts are DW safe. no longer have the food pusher...
i use it for coleslaw these days. over the years i made pastry and pie dough and bread dough and ground beef to make my own hamburg.
back when i used it for strwberry margaritas but a blender works better.
Would i get another to replace it? No, because in the time it takes to set it up and get the blades attached and prep veggies, i could do it quicker with a knife. And i have a small counter-top Cuisinart too.

I had one of the earliest Cuisinarts. I had enough counterspace to give it countertop space. I used it frequently for preping veggies for the Chinese cooking we did 2 or 4 days a week. Also used it to aid the kneading when I baked bread.
I gave it away once I had less counterspace and had to lift that very heavy machine off a shelf onto the counter to use it. I don't miss it!

Rarely, but I would never get rid of it. When I need it, no other appliance will do. Also, I have a family that devours coleslaw in the summer and I use it for nut based meals (i.e. taco filling). I have mandolins, spiralizer, juicer, vitamix...sometimes only the food processor is the tool for the win! I guess it depends on the type of foods you make to determine if it is necessary.

@Ainhisg wrote:Same as @Effie54 I do love the one I have, but it is such a pain to clean, that I only use it for shredding carrots, making cheesecake filling, and maybe a couple of other uses. Because I use it so seldom (but am glad I have it when I need it), I bought an inexpensive Hamilton Beach 14-cup Big Mouth. I got it on Amazon. It works very well. I can't see paying more for something that is stored 99% of the time.
In so many videos, they say they are dishwasher safe. We use so much silverware, I run the dishwasher often.
Is using the dishwasher an issue please?
I use the dishwasher for every part that I can, but the parts take up a lot of room in the dishwasher.

I use my Ninja Master Prep almost everyday. I chop up frozen fruits for my yogurt.
TG I've had this Ninja for the past year. I really needed it to make it possible for me to eat during my dental implant wait time as I have very few teeth in my mouth to chew...lol!

I had a Kitchen Aid. Used it once in 8 years or so. Sold it in our garage sale.

I have a Cuisinart that I bought in the 1980's. I keep it on the counter and use it a lot. I use it to chop up veggies for soups , mix pie crusts, bread crumbs make dough etc.
Recently, DH mistakenly bought coffee beans instead of the already ground coffee. We don't have a coffee bean grinder, so decided to try the good old food processor. It worked perfectly.
Really would not want to do w/o it.

@ECBG QVC has one of those Custom or DLC style squared off Cuisinart models. Some get good reviews, and are in my mind the easiest to use of their models.
They come in different sizes, and I wouldn't go below 11 cups if it were me.
