Re: How Is Your Diet Different Now?

Less processed boxed food and more fresh health food. Less meat more fruits and veggies. Smoothies in the vitamix with low sugar yogurt for added protein.

Roasting vegetables has taken over steaming.  I don't hardly fry.  I have always bought fresh; I can't stand much canned.

I try to buy and use more organic products---- never was into the processed garbage in boxes and cans---but do use frozen items---

Incorperating alot more veggies as well and less red meats. Cutting down the carbs too--cooking from scratch but I always have. Trying to buy as local as I can. We eat fruits too but not alot of them---fruit  sugar is still sugar---have stopped buying bottled water and use a filter pitcher. But I still pop 2 oz of dark choc in my gullet each day!!!Woman Wink

Re: How Is Your Diet Different Now?

I have one big meal a day, lunch. Dinner is usually a light salad or fruit. Maybe half a sandwich. I drink water mainly. Sometimes ice tea. My doctor put me on metformin in 2020. I have lost 45 lbs. When my daughter visits she's surprised I don't prepare dinner anymore. All these changes happened after I retired in 2018. Prior to that I was always going out to lunch and having a nice dinner too.

[ Edited ]

My diet is significantly different from how I ate most of my life.  I don't eat sugar, grains, starchy vegetables, or legumes, and I avoid cruddy, inflammatory seed oils as much as possible.  I eat  very low carb, a moderate amount of protein, and healthy fats - fruits are limited to berries.  I usually have a serving of MCT oil daily and I use real Irish butter - no margarine or whipped up oil in this house.  I follow an intermittent fasting schedule that ranges from 20:4 - 22:2.  That means I either eat one meal daily or one meal and a little something extra within my eating window.  I always have water near me, only drink a diet pop once in a blue moon.   Between June 2019 and January 2022 I lost 150 lbs. and have been maintaining.  I'm in the best health of my adult life.

Re: How Is Your Diet Different Now?

Oh, my diet is hugely different now. I lost 70 lbs. several years ago and this time I'm NOT regaining it back! I eat no carb and am an avid walker now. And its working for me. I checked my last years walking record on my Fitbit. I actually walked 1,700 miles in 2023!!! I really didn't know I walked that much. But I'm happy, healthy, slim and did I mention happy? Heart

Re: How Is Your Diet Different Now?

1,700 miles - that's amazing, @ID2! I just started walking again. I tried it many years ago, found too many excuses and ended up quitting. I was a fatty back then too.  I know I'll never be in your league but I am more committed this time.  Since I had my kidney removed, I want to keep the remaining one healthy.  The chance of recurring cancer is super low but I also have high blood pressure. I don't want to increase my meds so the walking helps.  My subdivision is very hilly so I'm challenged, which is good, but once I get my 30 mins. in, that's enough.  When the weather gets consistency nice, I may push a little more, but nothing too radical.

Since you aren't eating any carbs, does that mean you eat the carnivore lifestyle?  I have a friend who used to eat keto but switched to carnivore last year.

Re: How Is Your Diet Different Now?

Agreeing with others that I eat what I can tolerate.  I am having stomach issues so if I get a full meal down it's a good day.  I try to eat and cook as healthy as I can, we don't eat out much at all. I do stay away from processed food as I think many have a chemical taste.  But if I want an Oreo I will have one or four😉

Much less carbs, sugar & salt.  Haven't had soda in 6 years.
