Re: Honeybell oranges are the same as..

When I lived in N Calif, I grew my oranges, tangelos in 15 gal buckets !

Winter time...the XMAS lights were seen in the citrus trees to help on frost !    LOL

I am also from the Midwest, Michigan to be exact, and our oranges in the winter are pathetic.   I just bought a 3 lb bag of naval oranges, described as sweet and juicy in the ad.   They were neither and after peeling it and taking all that white stuff off, the orange was as big as a half dollar on the inside.    The skin of the orange was so thick, I could not believe it, what a waste of money.   Years ago I could buy sweet, juicy oranges even in the winter, but not any more.   I really miss them.....these naval ornage were from California.

A satsuma is a tangerine not a tangelo though. Honeybells are a tangelo.

I don't know a great deal about fruit types, etc. but a Satsuma tastes nothing at all like a tangerine.

I think florida has the best oranges and Cal. best strawberries.

Used to live in Ind and I agree the fruit up there bites it. LOL

Better potatoes, though, potatoes ,here in Tx. bite it.

I'm having really good luck with citrus here in TX right now, especially the oranges, MOSTLY thin skinned and very sweet and juicy, though there always seems to be a stinker or two in the big bags I try to buy (I look for the biggest oranges), a 15 pound bag for around $9, grown in Texas in the Rio Grande Valley. They don't look 'perfect', but they taste like heaven, lol!

I was dismayed to see Cushman's is a Harry and David company.  Nothing wrong with them but I liked the idea of an independent orchard.  By the way, I have interstisial cystitis and can't eat most citrus fruit.  I can eat Honeybells.  So now I will look for the mineolas.
