Re: Holy 🐮 ! The cost of butter!

[ Edited ]

I just paid $2.55 for a pound at Aldi.

Kroger or Meijer sometimes do 2 for $5 sales.

Milk prices are down, so it’s curious that butter is up.

I paid 98 cents for a dozen eggs too.

Food prices are crazy! I usually shop Aldi, but get odds and ends at Meijer. Always shocks me to see their prices! Produce has been high as well.

PS: maybe the butter WAS from a holy cow! Could be why it’s so expensive! LOL!

We have an Aldi's - I went when they first opened and wasn't very impressed, but perhaps I'd better go back and check out the butter and eggs.

Costco has it very inexpensive. Never thought it was expensive at all.

We like KerryGold. I buy 10-15 bars at Aldi's & freeze it. Last time I bought it there it was $3.69

Re: Holy 🐮 ! The cost of butter!

I mostly buy Tillamook or Challenge and don't really go by price, but sometimes I see one or the other on sale.  IIRC, I usually pay $4-$6 a pound.  When one is on sale I buy a couple of pounds and then I vac-seal and freeze most of it in 1-2 cube packages.

For that amount of money, I have enough butter to last quite a few months, so it doesn't seem expensive to me.  Smiley Happy

Glad I live in the Dairy State. It's always less than $3 a pound. I've never frozen butter, but someone I worked with would buy in bulk from Costco and freeze it.

Re: Holy 🐮 ! The cost of butter!

I haven't bought any for a while. I usually keep an extra pound in the freezer, forgot all about it when I pulled that extra one from the freezer and now it is half gone, so I will need to stock back up pretty quickly now that baking "season" is upon us. Thanks for the reminder.

Re: Holy 🐮 ! The cost of butter!

i've been waiting for the price of butter to drop. it freezes just fine. here, about the lowest it goes is $3.99 at grocery outlet.  they actually had a bogo at that price last week, and i was going to scoop up several, but all of a sudden mr. particular, decided he would be fine with squeeze butter blend.  i say WHAT!?!?  you want butter blend instead of butter?  the selling point for him was "it's land 'o lakes"

whatever. still shaking head over that one.

Re: Holy 🐮 ! The cost of butter!

Land O' Lakes was $5.99/lb this week.  A couple of weeks ago they had a brand named "Challenger" it was $2.99/lb. -- I bought a few.

Not big butter person but spouse eats rye toast with pb & butter every morning so I try to "stock up" when it's on sale.

Publix in a few weeks will have big baking BOGO sale I'm sure because the store is already converted to all those goodies for Thanksgiving & Christmas!

Re: Holy 🐮 ! The cost of butter!

I do a lot of baking and cooking.  One pie takes 2 sticks of butter if you include some in the filling.  I start to panic when I'm down to one pound in the freezer.
