Hollow stemmed champagne glasses- safe or not safe?

I have 8 of these, and I vaguely remember that we stopped using them because they couldn't be cleaned properly?

Myth or fact?

I never heard that.  I have some, also, I think just washing them carefully in hot water and soap would clean them.  If you're worried, I'm guessing someone makes a thin bottle brush that would do the trick.  You could check Amazon.

I have heavier crystal flutes which I use most of the time, that way I don't worry about breakage.

Just checked Amazon and did a search for "thin bottle brush."

Lots of choices if you're interested.

I've never heard this. I would just clean it with a brush and hold the base of the bowl instead of the stem if you're somehow worried the stem might snap off.

Well WE stopped using them because flutes are so much better ....the bubbles last longer!

You can always rinse them with water, then dip in alcohol or bleach solution and rinse again in dish soap.  A touch of soaking would remove any dried wine.  I have a set of bottle brushes by Contigo for cleaning their travel coffee cups and water bottles.  One is has two ends for getting into the tiny nooks.  It is long and would work.  I got them on Amazon.

Wine may dry and leave a sticky residue on the bottom of the glass, which for these, would be at the very bottom of the stem. That would be difficult to get to unless you let it soak until it all dissolved. But you are right about the germs.....that is why alcohol is used in hospitals.
