Here's another thread off my chipped beef question

I said we used the glass jars for juice glasses.  We were mighty poor back then, raised by a single working mother.  She often took advantage of free dishware in food packages. I still have a few of the Taylor Smith & Taylor pieces that came in Quaker Oats.  I picked them up when we cleaned her house out 20 years ago.  The heydey for all this free stuff was in the 50's. What do you remember?

@depglass    It was post WW2...and there were still  shortages.   We used jelly glasses...darned socks, and wore old clothes for quite a while...

Cartoon characters on jelly jars to become drinking glasses when done. I think Welch's was one. There were 5 of us kids and there must've been a hundred different glasses in the dishwasher for years.

My daughter had a bunch of Cabbage Patch glass drinking glasses from Mc Donald's? Also Halloween buckets that the Happy Meals came in at that time of year. (They go for a few bucks on Ebay now....)

If I remember correctly, we got free dishes in Duz laundry soap. I just googled it and it was the wheat pattern. My mom made most of our clothes.

When I saw the heading of this post I immediately thought of the dishes in laundry detergent but could not think of the name. Thanks for a great memory.

We used to get dishes at the gas station when my dad would fill up the car.

When my son was a little guy, I bought Welch's jelly just for the characters on the jar. I still have them. The glasses look great. Better than many glasses I bought recently. The recent glasses were Rocky and Bullwinkle and some Disney characters, The diswasher destroyed the design on the glasses.

But the Welch's glasses their design is still going strong.

My mother bought sour cream in drinking glasses.

i bought Red Rose tea bags that had figurines in the box for many years.  I used to have them on my kitchen window sill, but got tired of cleaning them and threw them out.

@Carmie I used to collect those Red Rose figurines too.  I sold the whole collection on ebay for a few bucks years ago.
