Re: Have you noticed or is it just me

We have a beef farm near us, when they butcher they let us know and I usually buy 15-25#, package and freeze it in 1# vacuum bags. Some I brown and then freeze in 1# bags. I love having that on hand to use when I want to make chili, tacos or anything that needs ground beef browned. And it is wonderful when we are in the camper, I hate frying meat in the camper.

I have noticed that to get the sale price on chips or crackers etc. they want you to buy 5 bags. Huh? I want one bag, two max. So I don't shop at those stores anymore. I don't want uber multiples.

Re: Have you noticed or is it just me

I do buy meat on sale and if it is a good price I will get extra and freeze.  I have always had a freezer full of food and still do.  I make more meals when school starts for my daughters family to help out.  Just next door so no problem.   Just a couple meals a week and I enjoy doing that.  Food prices are high so better to plan meals around sales and pick up extra for next go round.

I don't know what you mean by "chop meat".  Do you mean ground beef?  I don't buy that in bulk.  I buy grassfed ground beef, which I believe is the best, at Aldi, in 1 lb. packages.  I was shocked when I first learned they carried it.  Last week they had it for $3.99/pkg. That's a steal, so I stocked up.  Pork chops and steaks, I get them at Costco, in multi packs, then separate and vacuum pack for the freezer.  As for chicken, we mostly use boneless skinless breasts. Costco has them frozen or fresh in bundles of 2 portion per package. I honestly don't watch the prices that closely. I buy what I need when I need it.  DH and I don't overdo it on meat.  A 4-6 oz. portion is plenty so we can share a steak.  The only time we go a little larger is with a boneless pork chops.

Ground chuck is chop meat to me..WE don't have a butcher here..like I did in the city..and there is only 1 supermarket with in 23 miles..

I will make a large batch of meatballs and foodsaver them in portions..my kids should be visiting soon..LOL...I do the same for burger patties..and a meatloaf...I just have spending that much on just 1 item.

Thanks for explaining that @Jo1313 .  I had never heard the term "chop meat" and thought you were talking about pork chops! Maybe it's a regional thing?

@shoesnbags I'm glad you asked. I didn't know if she left off the "ped" or if it was (to be chopped) meat.  I had never heard of it either.  We call it ground beef.

@santorini

I just googled out of curiosity and it seems to be a New York/New Jersey term for ground beef.

Re: Have you noticed or is it just me

I buy meat in bulk.  Five lbs of ground beef is nothing.  If I make meatloaf, I use two lbs.  One pound makes four hamburgers, Spaghetti sauce uses two lbs....all five lbs used up.  When you cook beef, it shrinks.

To save money on meat, I shop early in the morning.  My local grocery store sells meat, bread, veggies and fruit and some other foods like bakery items and canned food at half price or less.

They price the stuff to sell fast.  It is still fresh and not expired, but they have put new stock out at full price.  They also sell ready to eat items at half price too.

I the app FLASHFOOD to buy half price things from the grocery store too.  I do have two deep freezers, so I have room to store items.

I buy a lot of food.  I cook every day and give a lot of it away to my children and friends when I make big batches.
