Re: Have You Ever Had See's Candy?

@cuddlesmama I'm 71 and spent my first 61 years in California and know See's well! Mary See started the company in Pasadena, California, if I recall. I've seen a few documentaries about her and the company.

In California See's is almost an institution!

I LOVE it! My favorite and I've tried just about every candy or chocolate around. Much better than Godiva, which I don't like.

You can purchase online.

I've never had a piece of See's I didn't love.

I love See's candy - they have a very distinctive taste.  I love to get the custom made box of just my favorites.

I'm not a fan at all.   My favorite is Godiva.

@Love my grandkids

I was born in Pasadena and remember how excited I was when my grandmother would give me a couple of pennies to get a See's lollipop.

Yes, I have had See's Candies, I especially like the Pecan Nut Chews. There are See's Candies stores around the country, but they are everywhere throughout California.

R U Kidding? Russel Stover & Whitman's? These brands are drug store candy. Apples & oranges. "Cutsey" stores?

I don't think there is an incorrect answer to this.  My young childhood memories as a Hudson County New Jerseyite include Whitman Sampler, Russell Stover, and Barricini candy. The first two boxed drugstore candy assortments were always in our house around this time of year as was Barricini.

Barricini had its own stores and you could pick your own assortment or a beautifully prepacked assortment box.  I was so happy to find they were available in Connecticut when we moved there when I was eleven.   At first, we didn't know that and our dear friend from Jersey City would bring Barricini candy for every Thanksgiving and Christmas visit.

Sometimes she would risk it in the summer by schlepping it in those insulated paper bags that were used for ice cream or chocolates and provided by the stores back then.

I particularly liked the green tinted marzipan shaped like acorns with the "cap" made of semi sweet or bittersweet chocolate, so she would bring a separate box of those as a special treat just for me.

Food preferences of any kind are at least in part embedded in our own encounters and memories of them.

Coincidentally, AmazonSmile Prime just delivered the original Cakebites Classic Italian Rainbow 12 pack of three little cakes in each pack--pure heaven!  I wonder if I can make them last through New Years Day.  I'll have to "hide" them from myself to make them last!Smiley Wink

Love posts that drift us back to long ago happy memories, so a special thanks to @cuddlesmama

@bonappetit - I actually think Russell Stover makes excellent milk chocolate, and its candies filled with marshmallow and caramel are among the best in the market, even when comparing artisanal or speciality chocolates. As I mentioned in a previous post in this thread, each brand seems to have some really amazing offerings and many that are pretty average; I have yet to find a chocolatier where every single piece it produces is "the best chocolate ever."
